My 1993 Rev2 Tintop Turbo

Post by lee66 »

Hi all, not really sure where to start...
Ive recently bought myself a 1993 rev2 turbo which needed a little work, I won it as abit of an impulse bid on ebay (I was actually looking for a van #-o ).

Mechanically the car is in pretty good condition, its done 165k km but seems to have been well looked after with a pretty extensive history.
It has also had a recent headgasket and cambelt done a few months ago.
Ive not had chance to drive the car yet but I was passenger on the way home (about 40 miles) with my dad driving and it seemed to drive really well apart from it was hard to change gear, the car also felt like it had quite abit of power, however it didnt seem to feel as fast as my old mk4 astra turbo? (on paper the mr2 should be considerably quicker).

Cosmetically the car is pretty tatty, the car was originally red, which at some point (2011 I think) was painted yellow with a black roof.
I quite like the colour of it but the job itself is pretty bad, there is runs in quite a few areas, chips where red paint have come through, overspray in places etc etc.. also the drivers side sill has a rust patch on it.

Anyway my plan is over the next few months is to try and tidy it all up and give the old girl a few more years!

Since I bought the car I only had it a few days but I washed it, fixed the alarm, sorted the passenger side electric window, and then sent it into the garage to have the sill welded up and also an mot on it (failed).

The garage has had my car for 3 weeks doing the welding and mot repairs and been desperate to get it back!
Anyway I got it back today an hour before I started work

Now ive got the car back home im hoping to try get a few bits ordered over the next couple of days so hopefully they turn up before the weekend so I can get started :thumleft:

It's always nice to see someone investing a bit of optimism into a tired '2. Look forward to more updates with pics. What was wrong with your passenger side window? Mine won't go up from the driver's side switch any more so this is something I'll have to fix up soon.

Thanks mate :) Yeah its nice to
Yeah cant wait til my post count lets me turn into a picture whore lol..
The window died on me on the way home from buying the car lol it was just a faulty passenger switch mate so a nice and easy/cheap fix :thumleft:

Bought a new battery aswell this morning as the old one had a 2008 sticker on it and was flat as a pancake.
Also got a cheapish pair of brake pads to do me until I take the car off the road as my rear pads are low.

Also got the car insured now so will get more piccys etc also will update with more info etc as and when I get chance :D

Just a little bit of an update.
Went out for a little spin after work last night to test me new car out :D
Car pulls like a train and handles great  but does need something sorting with these gears! Got a feeling it could be the clutch but it doesnt slip or grind? Deffo needs investigating..

Anyway, jacked the car up this morning hoping to quickly put some new rear pads on before I started work..
I removed the n/s/r wheel to find a pretty big 'egg' on the inside of the tyre!
Bit gutted I need a new tyre but not the end of the world and im glad I spotted it now at least rather than having it blow out on me.

So then I go to to fit my new pads and after spending about an hour on one corner I ran out of time and had to pack up and go to work.
No idea why im struggleing so much ive never had problems fitting brake discs/pads in the past. Anyways I read a guide on fitting them so hopefully will get it finished in the morning (fingers crossed).
