will binning my space saver upset handling ?

Post by alan_uk »

i was wanting to remove my space saver doughnut and have my frunk empty and clean for storage space as im planning on having a boot mount intercooler set-up when i get my turbo engine fitted

have heard some worrying stories that the front becomes light and hard to control if this is done

are these rumours true or just here say :thumleft:

Alan. Please. Stop thinking

Leave it in though, if you take it out and go into a corner, you'll lose the back end, do about five 360s and end up in a tree.

If you're worried about it why not take out the space saver and go for a drive, let us know if you notice any difference...my money says you won't :thumleft:

Or

You hide round the corner,, get someone to take it out or leave it in and not tell you. Go for a drive a guess.

Does make a difference. If you don't notice it you aren't trying hard enough.

If anything lightening the front makes turn in sharper. I remember when my wife and I eloped we used the frunk as a second boot I took out the plastic trim so we could get squishy hold alls into every nook and cranny - the car was a dog to drive. Not long after we got back I took everything out of the frunk inc spare jack etc - isnt that what AA cards are for? - then took it for a blast and the car was a hoot nice and pointy :-)

My Advice - Sell the space saver, the plastic liner, the jack and tool kit; dont buy tyre weld - totally fox your tyre and you need a compressor as well, instead subscribe to the AA much more comprehensive coverage - ie: lets see tyre weld fix this one....

Also - lets see a picture of a 17x9 in the spare wheel well - Ghetto power bulge yo!!!

Or on a slightly more practical note you could copy this spare wheel storage solution....

Parting shot - do you think this guy carries a spare...

Will a 17x9 actually fit in the frunk? I'm heading across Europe in June and it'd be nice to have a spare..

not only should you leave the spare in there for handling, but for added front grip a well known solution is a bag of cement and fills out nicely!
