Corolla GTS is ordinarily American speak for AE86.

Not sure what you're after.

The GT-S name was applied to various incarnations of NA Corolla/Sprinter models eg. AE86, AE92, AE98 etc. so a 'GT-S head' could be almost any version of 4A-GE head

Errr - the Mk1 came with the bigport engine as standard, the 1a with the 'blue top' 3 rib block version, the 1b with the 'red top' 7 rib block one. All T-VIS 4A-GE engines were big port, as were all 4A-GZEs fitted to MR2s ( and to AE92s until about mid 1990 when the non-TVIS smallport made an appearance ).

If you mean you want to put a smallport 4A in a Mk1, you need to swap more than just the head - you need the entire engine, engine loom and ECU as the head was only one of the differences between the engines ( T-VIS won't fit on a smallport head for intance )

I ran a small port in a couple of MK1s for about 5 years, in std tune they are not much different to the big port with TVIS just a little more torque low down, i ran mine with std crossover ecu (not the best set up) Bill Hulme has run with both the AE92 ECU and his home made adapter to fit TVIS to the small port head in the past, you can get the TVIS to small port adapters from Evil bay in the US, to be honest though unless you want to do some tuning and spend lots of pennies there are no significant gains to be had

May '89 is start of production date for small port 4-AGE

( T-VIS won't fit on a smallport head for intance )

there are adaptors availible for this if you want, though there are as many pro's as cons for fitting/not fitting T-VIS to a small port

Thanks

small port has an uprated oiling system so most of the + points are from the bottom end, stronger crank higher flow oil pump etc. google 4-AGE oil squirter for the info

Further skewed by being a US based forum - the US 4A engines have yet another spec due to their emission requirements e.g. their 1a bluetops gave about 115bhp whereas ours delivered 123bhp

My 1b red-black top bigport is rated at 115hp because UK 1b cars use MAP, but EU 1b cars use AFM (a huuuge restriction)
