91 MR2 GT - Tbar

Post by westymr2 »

Hi All,

I'm new to this forum and have been pointed to it from numerous google searches. Any way I'll introduce myself. I've just purchased my first 2, last week blind off ebay. Its a Mk2 Rev 1 n/a GT T-Bar with 72k miles on the clock. As far as I can tell its completely standard with no rust.

I needed a reliable daily driver that was a bit a different and was a real drivers car... I've had a volvo v70 as my daily for the last 6 months (great car, comfortable, great for my MTB stuff, and ferrying parts) but soooo boring. On a bit of a whim it clicked how relatively cheap MR2's so I did some research (ended up on here a lot) and stuck a bid in and won. Having never driven one I was taking a bit of a gamble... I've definitely lucked out as the MR2 is so much fun to drive, however its carrying capacity is yet to be tested and with a 22 year old car you can never be 100% confident on reliability however initial signs are promising!

To note my other car is Capri and although only 8 years between them the difference in sophistication is light years apart and the engine bay is a bit cramped to what I'm used too (Pinto engine is lost in the capri engine bay lol)

First steps for the 2 are to service the engine, new discs, pads, fluid, give it a polish, treat the leather interior and give its cavitys a good dosing of waxoyl. I'm sure there be plenty of questions so appreciate your patience.

Cheers,

Josh
