I have to drain and refill the coolant in my car but I'm a little unsure as to what is the best solution to use. Halfords state this one is suitable for most vehicles pre 1998 - http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... 55224#tab3
Does that seem ok?
Also, any tips for draining and refilling?

Re: Which coolant?
Although the handbook just states a good ethylene glycol coolant if i remember correctly. I always got my pink stuff from citroen as it was much cheaper and exctly the same stuff that goes in the Aygo's except sold for the C1.

Re: Which coolant?
I always use Jimi's write up to drain and refill. I just used the red stuff from a motor factor that was stipulated in the hand book.

Infact I use his site for most things.

Re: Which coolant?
Fact is either red or blue is good enough if used in the correct mix/ratio
just remember to completely drain the system and flush it if changing from one to the other as mixing red and blue can lead to a gel like substance which will clog the cooling system
follow Jimi's guide and you'll not go far wrong
to throw a curve ball in, my coolant is flouro. orange Silkolene long life and comes with a 250.000 mile gaurentee, Mr T's forlife is only 60.000 mile stuff
very much doubt i'll be testing the 1/4 million mile claims though!

Re: Which coolant?
It can also be worthwhile leaving the drain willy open at the front and sticking a hosepipe in the filler at the back and giving it a good flush through - it's amazing how much crap this can get rid of.

Re: Which coolant?
The manual says to use an ethylene-glycol based coolant but manual does not say anything whether it should be also silicate free stuff.
Over here the ethylene-glycol based coolant is available with and without silicates. Does this matter as manufacturer says that even the non-silicate free stuff today is OK for aluminium. Which one to use?
