LEMONYFRESH! My MR2 journey

Post by lemonyfresh »

Hello people of IMOC

It's about time I did one of these! My car is up for sale and it would be just WRONG of me not to after a few years of ownership.

Well, here is the car at home on the night I bought it, I came out of driving a Ford Capri, and then a -cough- Puma -cough-, and had always wanted a bit of retro jap-ness.

I was mesmerized by the pop-ups at first..... and still am! always brings a smile to my face.

Of course, being winter it immediately snowed, so the first few months of driving in my 2' were a bit of a baptism of fire!

No sooner than the winter had ended and the snow had thawed, I realised I had a puncture on the rear drivers side wheel. Most people would simply replace the tyre but I had other ideas.....

:P - The wheels that came with the car had 205's on all the way round with no stagger, that made it:
1. Look ridiculous
2. have "interesting" handling
3. Seeing as they were bargain basement Wolfrace, look like a typical chav-mobile.
THEY CLEARLY HAD TO GO.... well, that was my excuse to the missus anyway!

The months passed, the MR2 picked up a few battle scars to the radiator (replaced, cheers Rogue!), and windscreen, but other than that never missed a beat.

I bought a double din Kenwood headunit and upgraded the door speakers, replacing the Halfords ones previously fitted. At this time it came to my attention that the rear cubby boxes had been mutilated to accommodate some horrific rectangular woofers. This was the excuse I needed to build some custom boxes and get some (half decent) Vibe ones!

"But what about the cubby boxes?!?!?" you may be thinking - Well, JasonGTR sorted me out with some new lids and a new firewall carpet to boot (the previous owner had cut it to accommodate speakers, but hadnt followed the idea through).

for anyone attempting this job in the future please prepare yourself to swear a lot and spend a lot of time removing interior parts, only then to have to swear a lot and put back all the parts you have removed! ](*,) worth the effort for a tidy interior though.

Many more months passed, and another winter or two. The MR2 got driven all over the UK on road trips, holidays, work matters, and sometimes, just for the fun of it!

Im slightly ashamed of the crappy quality of most of these pics. I never did get any decent ones! (until now)
(People who admire good quality pic-whoring please see my for sale thread for your viewing pleasure :oldtongue:)

As the 2' has been my daily for nearly 3 years I chose not to modify it beyond the sound system and alloys. It has been totally reliable in it's time with me and i suspect whoever buys it will have the same amount of enjoyment i have be lucky enough to have! :thumleft:

So, that's me. The MR2 has now been replaced with a Saab 9-3 Aero (210BHP, petrol, turbo of course) and is currently residing on the drive waiting for it's new home.
blacker than the blackest black, TIMES INFINITY!
