Crashed mr2's

Well recently i had quite a bad crash in my mr2, hit another car almost head on about 70 and I'm very surprised how well the car held up! The front was completely caved in but all the cockpit was untouched and I came out uninjured which I and alot of others were surprised at!
Just wondering if anyone else was unfortunate to have a accident in a mk1 and how they thought the car held out and pics

Main thing is that you are evidently OK

I don't believe that would have the same outcome if Lauren wasn't running a bumper bar. I reckon it would have been considerably worse. It would have been a write off anyway, but personal injury surely would have occurred.

Glad you are being safe though Peter, as always.

Mine has been welded to a standard above Toyota now so mine is stronger than when it left the factory, so no concerns my end.

From those pics it seems those super chargers seem to have a habit of having front end "incidents" -

Not sure i would run my car on the road without the front bumper bar..

Someone i knew along time ago lost a log in a car accident where they collided at speed with a lamp post.... Not sure what the car was but it was front engined and the post basically ended up where the gear stick should be .... My cousin (the persons friend) actually past the car not long after it happened (all the emergency services in full flow) and remembers talking to his mates about how bad a crash it was and that there was no way anyone would have got out of it.....

I found it understeered a hell of a lot more without the bumper bar as I used car for 3 weeks without it. MPG went up, but glad its back on now.

I only removed it after I found it snapped when I was I towed.

Attaching the rear bumper cover without the bar would be awkward i'm guessing?

Yes, cos the cover is attached to the bar both top & bottom on the back one

I want to remove the back one, will have to make some ali brackets I think

I was impressed by how mine held up. I was doing normal dual carriageway speeds when someone pulled out from a gap in the central reservation into my path (they followed the car in front without even checking if it was clear ). Managed to panic and lock everything up before hitting his rear wheel:



Vix in the passenger seat had some pretty bad seatbelt bruising but apart from that we were both fine.

The impact bent the front of the car sufficiently that something around the heater matrix split as the passenger footwell was full of coolant when I got the car back.

Rear bumper bar has been partially removed on our track car (the middle section has been cut out but the ends are still present to allow easy bumper mounting. Front one is still complete as the car is used on the road and I wouldn't want to risk hitting a tree/post centrally with basically nothing between the front of the car and the base of the windscreen to help absorb the energy.

Will do that
