Black mk1's

Post by rev3turbo »

Are they quite rare?

Just that im working on one atm, never seen one before and its near on mint! no arch rust/rot etc, great paintwork.

its a sunroof model, red pinstriped, black (unmarked) leather seats, sound original?

They are quite rare but I have one and I know someone else who has one in the North West. There are rarer colours around like a dark metallic red, a metallic blue/turquoise, and the two tone Sherwood which is metallic green over champagne. I've never seen any of these colours on the road but have seen a SORNed Sherwood in a barn once, don't know if it was ever repaired.

Mmmmm... that Sherwood colour scheme is very nice.

If I ever do a full respray on the SC I'd certainly consider that.

Very nice.

Tim, cartledge_uk raced a sherwood for quite a while until it was rolled.

No wonder you don't see many of them if they're getting binned like that!

Looks pretty blue to me.
If you can't see the angle, you're in trouble.

No, no, no don't do it! SC's were never in this colour!

I guess it's a matter of personal taste really. Not a fan of anything that involves green myself! ;)

I think my black mk1b was one of about 4 or something left in the country, (i.e. specifically mk1b, black with t-bar and leather options). I think the black paint was quite an expensive option back in the day? Although I'm sure mk1a's came in black as standard (I've had one of these too, in the past).

Apologies to the purists/original crowd... but mine isn't original anymore. 8-[ :oldtongue:

As for two-tone, I'm not a massive fan, though some chap on the retro rides forums did white over black (think Intital D!) and that looked awesome.

Its a personal thing but I don't agree with changing from a car's original colour

My eldest daughter (5) will be disappointed Peter. When I asked her what she thought of daddy's new car she said it was ok but would be better in pink!!

I found it with immaculate bodywork but no mot and a didgy gearbix. Fixed it and actually offered it for sale as it was too nice. Got fed up of stupid offers so stripped it and raced it

The threats against me for doing that to a sherwood were uncalled for though.

I once saw black aw11 in Bath town centre a couple of years back. The car was stunning! It had a gold decal set I think. Never saw it since and I don't think the owner has ever surfaced on the forums.

Yeah, looked like a standard version of that one, which I like a lot except for the rear bumper!

To the OP

It sounds like a mk1a with a red stripe these were resonably common TBH

But Black mk1b's, that is a different kettle of fish all together, it was an option of around £1500 because I think it was metalic black.

There are around 12 black mk1b's known to the mk1 club.

Gunmetal grey is probably the rarest colour, again £1500 option (UK car) only about 4 or 5 known to exist still.

Chris.
Mk1b White T-bar SC 1987, Mk1b White coupe Jan90, Mk1b White coupe Jan90 (spares), Mk1b Mica blue T-bar Mar90, Mk1b Mica blue T-bar,full climate control,Jan90, 5 mk1's :)

I was told that my Ice Blue metalic car cost extra Chris :?:

Didn't realise it was as much as £1500
