Oil in struts?

I am doing the DIY mx5 coilover mod
After stripping down the front struts and pulling out the shock inserts

i find that both legs had been filled with oil of one sort or the other (blue) along with the insert.

Both strut inserts are nearly new and not leaking.

did a google and find some people put some anti-freeze in before fitting the shocks??

any thoughts on refitting........ oil / dry / copper slip?

I used the antifreeze method.

The original units are not sealed like your replacements... I put a little bit of oil in the casing when I did mine but it only needed a thimble full iirc.
