[Mk2] [Turbo] error code 14!!!

Post by mikey2 »

this is one i havent seen before and has me a little confused!!!
The car starts, and recently it has been fine, then the management light comes on and the car runs like a bag of nails! flick the ignition off and back on and it clears and carries on as normal!!!
This morning, went to drive the car and the light came on almost straight away, nothing i could do would clear it and i ended up having to leave it at home on a nice sunny day!!!

Does anyone have any experience with the 'ignition indicator'??

I have had a look through the manuals i have, which are only for a rev 1 or 2 and i cant find any suggestion of it, the car is a rev3 turbo!!
If someone can point me in the right direction, i would be very grateful.

Thanks

From the Celica ST205 engine Repair manual:

You may have a dodgy connection between the ECU and ignitor, or the ignitor is faulty. Unlikely to be an ECU fault.

The ST205 engine repair manual is the closest you'll get to an English Rev 3 3S-GTE engine manual. Do a google search for RM398e.pdf to download a complete PDF.

thanks, i will have a look at that tomorrow when i have five minutes to do so. Would the engine run lumpy and display that code, or could it be say an ht lead not firing and the ecu not getting a signal??
the car has a lead from an NA as the original lead had broken.
I tried the car again and it still wont reset itself as it did before, i will check continuity between the ignitor and the ecu also when i can.
thanks

Well, after chasing faults around the ignitor etc, its the ecu thats at fault, chucked it in another car and it runs like a bag of spanners, although it doesnt throw a code!! Thanks for the help

It's possible that the electrolytic capacitors inside the ECU have failed and leaked.

Open up the ECU and see if any of the capacitors have leaked out, they look like this when they've failed:

The capacitors can be replaced quite easily, I've repaired a 4A-GE that was causing bad running by replacing the capacitors.

Easy solution - find another ECU. Not expensive. I and probably most other specialists will have good ones for sale.

I'll take the faulty one off you if you're going to bin it!
