Hello to all,
Ok as some of you may know I stripped my last MK1 and bought a new one. Well she wasn't in good condition, the normal rust issues, leaky T-Bar and faded paint. So we hunted around and got some quotes and the price was right so we bit the bullet and went for it. The car has been at the bodyshop for about three weeks so have alot to add today as I have been without a computer so here goes.
So this was my starting point.
Then to start with she needed to be stripped down. Poor car
Cutting back the rust.

Oh no look at the holes
I was quite pleased to know that my t-bar was made of filler...not.
New roof at some point maybe??
Ok so as you may have noticed the rust on the arches were terrible to say the least so had to buy new panels for both sides but will definitely be worth it.

Cutting the arches back ready for the new parts.
So with the new arches welded on let the priming commence.
No more holes.
Ok so now shes ready to be masked up.

Now the moment I have been waiting for, for the last three weeks the paint. These first couple of pics are of the car still in the booth but the last ones are out in the workshop.
Out of the booth.
She isnt completly finished still got bumpers to paint and needs to be flatted and polished but doesnt she looks awesome? Im so pleased .
There are some bits i need like new t-bar seals (if anyone has some?) but should be back together soon, so what do people think?
Thanks for looking,
Beckie

Wow, impressive amount of work, Bex.
I always think, MK1's don't rot that bad, but I think I keep basing my expectation on when they were a much newer car. I now realise they rot just as bad as AE86's (which is pretty bad to be fair).
Great job on getting it repaired, I must admit, I did not expect to see rust at the bottom of the C-pillars(!).
I didn't see the colour change coming!
Have you gone for mica blue or is it a custom colour?
I admit, I'm a bit of a fan of red, though my first MR2 was mica blue.

looking good, some real effort gone into that.
it hasn't had a new roof its just how the roof was joined at the factory. when i worked at Toyota's Burnaston plant that was my Job on the Carina E and the frog eye corolla brazing the roof and finishing to a smooth panel.
look forward to seeing the completed project

Yep, all Mk1 roofs are joined at the top of the C pillar, many presume they are joined at the C pillar base, we noticed the brazed join about 12 years ago.

Re: Restoration and Respray (gets pic heavy)
No more arch extensions? Were they just to cover the rust?
Re: Restoration and Respray (gets pic heavy)
Yeah definately the worst bit. Especially because they are in the country but am now waiting to see how much the customs charge is going to be.

Re: Restoration and Respray (gets pic heavy)
Yeah there was alot of rust under the extentions, but the wheels that were on it did stick out quite a long way so they covered them.
Re: Restoration and Respray (gets pic heavy)
Beckie where did you get your T-bar seals from in the end?
Did you get them from KBOX in Canada? Notice that $180 is around £100 which isn't bad. How much was shipping/customs?
I notice there are a rather rough looking 2nd hand set on eBay right now but at £50 I can see why you went for the new set.
BTW nice looking car, good to see it in a different colour than the usual white/red/blue!

Hi Paul
I got them from twos r us in the USA. They are $190 for the pair and I think about $60 postage but delivery is about a week to 10 days, whereas KBOX are more like 3 weeks minimum for about the same price. Not sure what the customs charge is as I havent recieved it yet.
Hope this helps.
