another project ??

Post by Garth84x »

Hi again all,

as some of you may have seen in my older post i've just got myself a mk1b project car that needs a fair amount of work.

however on my travels, i've noticed another mk1 parked up, in a front garden.

its on a 'c' plate in white dosn't look to bad, at a first glance but as i found out with the car i have now the sideskirts hide lots of nastys.
it has the teardrop alloys no sunroof or t-tops either.
what you think worth a knock on the door?

If its a tintop its less weighty than a sunroof or T-bar model

Lower centre of gravity too

Would make a good basis for a track car Garry

Only thing is if you have more than one project going at same time, one tends to trip over another

I speak from experience :)

Would be nice to do the other one as a fully trimmed & kitted out road car

Are you 100% its a tin top ??

As its a C reg this means its a mk1a with mk1b alloys, all UK mk1a cars were sunroof only cars it would need to be an import mk1a, which would have the older style JDM rear lights (the ones with round reflectors)

I have only ever seen one mk1a JDM car in the country it to was C reg and it was a tin top and was a white laner, but this car was MINT after having £6k spent on it and ruining it in the process, by respraying the car and dumping the decals and rocking horse poop seats, the car was an ultra rare white laner :(

Sometimes seen from some angles sunroof cars can look like tin tops, where as T-bars can be seen from even low down.

No offence intended but just make 100% sure before you buy.

'Lanner'

Apart from some special stickers there was nothing different about it. Think 'Astra Swing' etc. So rare but not particularly special. Have never seen one.

Peter best advantage of a tin top is not weight saving (pretty negligible compared to a sunroof car) but more that for those people (not me) who are tall it gives a bit more headroom which is great if you are wearing a helmet on track.

Good point Lauren. I'm about 6 ft

Sacrificed the sliding runners to get my replacement seat right down to floor level

Have more headroom now with a helmet on but seem to be sitting strangely low :)

EDIT: Thinking about it, suppose a sunroof could be replaced with an ali panel

It's not really the sunroof that robs the headroom, it's the headlining which comes down to accomodate it. Same problem in my car (electric sunroof). Mark is 5' 11" and can only just drive it with a helmet on on track.

I'm 5' 5" so am the perfect height (and weight) for 80's Japanese cars. :)

So it's a MK1b with a sunroof and someone has added TRD stickers?

I've yet to see many MK1s which actually have TRD parts fitted most just buy the stickers.
