Fired up the widebody today, has a few issues.

Post by planted1 »

Hi all
After eight months of highs and lows today was the day i fired up my £390
widebody.
Firstly i wasnt showing any oil pressure,so off came the sump again,
i had put the baffle on first......then the oil pickup pipe #-o ,
this caused the engine to suck air instead of oil,so sorted that,
luckily i hadnt started the engine.

Refilled with oil and a new Hks oil filter, pressure now showing 50 to 55 psi
at 2000 revs, im not sure whether this is good or bad though,
(But i will probaly have to add more oil tomorrow when i take another reading).

Secondly the car is overfuelling like mad,
540cc injectors,standard rail,tomei fpr,
quite smokey, but i was only running it with the downpipe and no exhaust,
not sure whether that would affect fueling though.
(smoke was black, sooty and smelled of fuel)
Still have adjustments to make on the fpr i think.
And i'll fit the exhaust tomorrow.

Thirdly,
Aftermaket boost gauge was running in reverse,
showing negative progressivly as the revs climbed,
ive plumbed it in incorrectly and will have to re do it.

Fourthly,
the car starts fist time almost instantly, but, without a little throttle applied will die allmost as quick,
:-k hmmmm has me puzzled that one does.
All the electrics are good after fitting turbo looms ,and the alternator seems to be doing its job properly.

I havent fitted the power fc yet and have the rev 3 turbo ecu installed
as i thought this would make it easier to rectify faults.
linking E1 and Te1 on the diag port shows a continuously flashing amber light and no fault codes.

Ait sensor isnt in its final location yet(into Arc airbox)but is loose hanging
would this affect fueling?
Map sensor is rev 3
mat sensor is an aftermarket one, cant think of the name of it at the moment, but i believe jim gts fitted one of these some time ago,

Having said all that it was great to hear it fire after months of messing with it weekends and most nights.

If anyone has any thoughts on the above problems shout them out as two heads are better than one even if their only sheeps :thumleft:
thanks
steve

Sorted the boost gauge,
sorted the fuel pressure,
ait sensor fitted into arc airbox,
iscv valve is at fault and needs cleaning.

Hi
ive been reading your thread on removal and its not a job i would like to do so kudos to you :thumleft:
To be honest ive spent most of the last few months trying to sort the other things with it,so bodywork has had to wait.
Done a few bits like repair the front nosecone, rear apron, skirts etc,
fibreglassing, and foam filling to give it rigidity.

If i had to buy one of these kits i'd probably buy it in duraflex plastic and not in fibreglass, plastic has give in it whereas fg is uncompromising,
but,
its getting there thanks :thumleft:
Dunno who chose the colour on it but its so fugly cant wait till the respray sometime soon.
Heres a few pics

testing the lights, and deciding whether to go spoilerless, which i probably will, also the front wheel offsets look ok,the rear would need spacers but
i'm not a fan of spacers so.....looks like a wheel change.

Testing interior electrics
Image
Seats curtesy of louise
Image
Testing front lights, front nosecone had quite a bit of damage originally
better now thoughImage
changed the fuel filler pipe as it was split 8-[
Image
Swapped out the steering rack as it was proper fubared
Image
Fitted the blitz clutch and flywheel
Image
Decided to upgrade the fuel system so that in future i could go for bigger injectors and rail
Image
Cleaned out the iscv today and this is what was washed out of it
black gunk everywhere,idles better now,
Image
Removed tank and fitted a walbro 255 pump
Image
Cleaned up the gearbox, fitted solid mounts and chromoloy cv joints
Image
Old radiator was corroded, aircon rad was dropping to bits,
changed it for this one,and allthough there will be some restriction i dont think it will be as restricted as having an aircon one in front.
Image
Checking all the poly bushes for wear
Image

All in all its coming on,
idles better now allthough its not perfect yet,
still i'll plod on :thumleft:
cheers
