Who has aftermarket seats in their mk1?

Post by donna »

Im sure im not the only one but i find the standard seats in the mk1 a bit...well...crap  , they dont hold me in corners and i feel like im sitting on top of about 15 cushions. I cant take it any longer so im buying a Sparco seat locally and hope to adapt the standard runners to make the seat fit but still be able to adjust the distance from the pedals for other people who may drive.

Its a fixed seat im buying so i need to buy some sidemounts.

Ive searched the forum and found a link to Lauren showing how to do this here

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/lauren.bli ... rdseat.htm

Great write up Lauren, hope you dont mind me posting it :thumleft:

Im now wondering what other seats people have fitted and how they have done it, whats works and what doesnt?

Any pics would be great too :thumleft:

Thanks

Donna

Mk3 seats fit with a little runner modification and look great, i've fitted these quite a few times now.

All other aftermarket bucket seats need a lot of runner work.

As you've found from my link, Donna the seat ended up being just too high for my liking.

So this is what we ended up doing:

http://www.mr2.net/trackdayqueen/seatrefit.htm

I just went with a static floor mount as there was no way we could get the seat low enough with a sliding rail.

You could fit MK3 seats as Paul suggests, though they are not particularly amazing really.

Other options are to look for the very rare runners for Recaros and go that way as obviously the SE has Recaros and the appropriate runners. You could try Miguel @ Newera I guess. I'd recommend a Recaro recliner, such as found in the DC2.

Thanks Paul, just trader my Roadster in for a 370Z and didnt really get on with those seats either tbh, especially in leather. They looked good but they are not for me :thumleft:

Hi Lauren, thanks for the reply, i will have a look at the link.

Im buying a Sparco pro 2000 seat tomorrow from someone locally but long term i do fancy a set of either DC2 or ideally DC5 Recaro's, they do seem to hold a premium though due to the Civic kids sticking them in their cars

There is a mk1a in my local scrappy so i think i will go along tomorrow and get the driverside runner just incase.

I have a set or Rage buckets in mine they are very comfy and they recline, my other half loves me far too much :).

He used universal seat subframes.

Made brackets & bolted mine direct to the floor

Am tallish & was always short of headroom

Particularly with a skidlid :)

No one but me drives the car so dont need adjustment

I've got some Sparco basemount buckets on universal sliding runners fitted to a homemade subframe. It's OK although ideally the whole setup could do with being redone to allow the seat to move slightly further back.

Car should be at home this week so I'll try and get some pics if I get a chance.

I've got Bride Brix in mine.. just welded plates to the existing seat rails. They sit at a perfect height and hold you in place perfectly!

This is as low as I could get the seat without modifying the floor Donna

Had to sacrifice the sliding runner though

Its not by any means lightweight & not a bucket seat but its supportive, comfortable & gives more headroom than standard

How much modification do you need to do with the mk3 seats?

And do you need a welder?

You don't need a welder, you can do it with bolts if you use decent ones, mine were just bolted in for years :D
