What price?

Post by jodieleigh18 »

Hi Guys,

I was wondering if you could help me.. I am currently trying to sell my 1998 (S Reg) Rev 5 N/A MR2 T-Bar in Cosmos Blue.

The car has done almost 99k and is in good condition for the age, It has stonechips to the front/rear bumpers, the odd fine scratch here and there which polish out when cleaned but overall it's a lovely clean car & in good condition.

I currently have it up for £2995.00 and am open to offers, however the prices seem to vary so much I am not sure if I have it up for the right price? Having paid £3200 for the car in Dec 2009 I dont really want to drop too much. I just wondered if I am being realistic or not.

I have tried posting a URL to the advert on here but because I have not made enough posts yet it wont allow me to.

Your help would be much appreciated :)

Thanks guys

you could get that with the right buyer, its not unrealistic if its a solid clean one, but tbh you might be better off putting it at around £2500

even then its a buyers market, these cars are getting harder to sell. I have a clean mica orange (the rarest mr2 colour) on sale at £2550, and theres a bit of interest there, but most are time wasters

MR2 prices are naff right now. I have seen rev3 n/a going for £500 in good condition and REV5's n/a struggling to make £2100

All depends on if you want a quick sale or you're prepared to hold on to it for a while? £2995 = Hold on to it a while

we're also entering the time of the year when the prices go down before the winter.. you're better off trying to sell it in the spring/summer.
Current: 2007 Porsche Cayman S
Gone: '94 rev3 NA, '92 rev2 Turbo forged, '07 Civic Type-R

Thanks guys, yes I think the market in general is very slow at the moment, and like you say coming into the winter is hardly the best time to sell.

I think I will drop the price to about £2500 and see what happens, if nothing then I will wait until the weather picks up next year.

Can anyone recommend a good place to advertise? So far I have it on Pistonheads, Gumtree & Ebay.. I wanted to put on here but havnt had much luck in placing the add?

In all honesty I think UK cars are worth £2K tops in the current climate, particularly now you can pick up a MK3 roadster, which is the more modern car and a convertible, for less than £3K. Sorry chap, probably not what you want to hear! But there are loads priced more than that which haven't shifted for ages, all colours and mileages!

Thank you, yes things are not too great at the moment so I have to say I think you maybe right. I have seen some Mk3's for around the same price (albeit some are high mileage for the age) and in most cases, people would say that a newer car should be worth more than the older models. I appreciate your honesty, as much as it means I am more than likely going to lose out more than I was hoping to.

On the other hand, the car is clean so I dont think it would hurt to try and get a bit more for it.. I guess if it takes too long to sell and I get desperate then a drop is the only option. I'm not in a rush for now :)

That's the key, if you're patient you might get it! You just need someone to want one in that colour or spec. If you need to sell...well it'll only be via a price drop. Times are strange at the moment, not a lot of money about!

As said. £2000 is probably its worth. I have just paid that for my 2000 V reg mk2 t bar in white. Cracking car with history and excellent leather.

I could of bought a mk3 for the same money, but it's down to personal choice.

Hold out for a good price. Cosmos blue is quite sought after.
