While car is on it's wheels:
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- unplug battery from car loom
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- unplug loom from ECU in boot, pass all leads through rear firewall and into engine bay
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- unplug main 12v feed to rear fuse box
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
(two small nuts hold it in)
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- seperate the main engine loom portion of the fuse box
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
(it slides up and out) so that engine loom is free of chassis
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- unplug king lead, and plugs to all the electronic boxes on the rear fire wall
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- remove airbox assembly
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- undo fuel lines
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- remove 12v feed from starter motor
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- undo main earth on drivers side of engine
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
(goes from cylinder head to driver's side suspension turret)
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- remove diagnostic port from rear firewall
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- unplug engine bay fan
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- generally undo anything else electronic I've forgotten to mention that goes between engine and chassis!
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- loosen exhasut manifold nuts, but leave a couple on there to hold it in place
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
(need to remove heatshield first)
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
Car up and on axle stands:
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- remove underbody plastic covers
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- drain coolant by undoing the two bolts on the large pipes under the body
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- drain engine oil
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- drain gearbox oil
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- take off wheels
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- undo trailing links from chassis
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- unbolt rear tie rods from hubs
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- unbolt lower arm from rear subframe
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- unbolt ARB drop links from ARB
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- unbolt exhaust mid section from exhaust manifold
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- unbolt rear subframe
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
(4 long bolts, and 3 going into rear engine mount) and lower by 2
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
-3 inches
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- undo ARB bushes so ARB is separate to rear subframe
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- unbolt exhaust midsection from rear subframe, and unplug lamda sensor from engine loom
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- remove rear subframe
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- remove exhaust
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- remove rear ARB
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- remove two drive shafts from gearbox, and swing them forwards and sideways, tie to chassis to leave room to drop engine
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
(worth covering splines with plastic bags to keep clean)
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- remove exhaust manifold
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
(to give yourself more space)
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- undo gearlinkages from gearbox
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- remove front gearbox mount
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- undo clutch slave cylinder from gearbox, I then cable tie this to the chassis to keep it out of the way
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
The engine/ gearbox should now look pretty clear to remove from chassis- renmove anything else connecting it you can see that I've forgotten- for example the water pipes
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
(except the final two engine mounts on either side of the engine bay)!
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
Now I tend to drop the engine onto a pallet using a crane through the engine bay, so take the weight and then undo the two engine mounts.
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
Then I lift the body with the crane so it's clear of the engine and there's roon to drag the engine out from under it.
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
This normally causes a clearance issue with the front bumper hitting the floor- so you may want to remove the front bumper first, but with my car I don't tend to bother as the bumper's far from mint anyway!
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
Off the top of my head that's it- I'm sure I've probably forgotten stuff, like remove the engine lid, rear inspection panels and rear boot lid first!
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
To be honest it's pretty straight forwards, you'll see what you need to do as you go along
