Update have now decided to make a surround that will cover around interccoler which will eventually be carpeted :thumleft:

was cut as a basic rectangul shape which i then shaped to fit boot area

Then whilst doing this came up with an idea to put the RIDDLER question mark on the interccoler to match my scar from recent brain surgery for my brain tumour :thumleft:

back in car with surround fitted (minus the upper intercooler surround which will go back on once interccoler pipes are fitted back on)

right following on from this i have now opened up the side vents to allow more air in

Now im thinking of blocking off the inside of the hole to allow air only into the boot mount !!! :-k
i know some of you have done this but im not shore whether to or not, toyota put that hole there for a reason to allow air into the engine bay for cooling (even on non turbo), i know there is an air flow under the car but it would not be much, what i wonder is do i
1) leave as is :-k
2) do i fully block off :-k
3) do i half block off :-k
4) do i full block but with vents in the block plate :-k
5) do i block but fit a spal fan in the middle :-k
does anyone have proof with theres that this works well & does not hinder cooling of the engine & what ones you have.
am also thinking of later on maybe running venting pipe from front bumper all the way to the back of the car :-k

Nick, i found that the engine lid spal fans more than made up for not having side vents open to the engine bay! Ran it for two summers with no overheating issues, my coolant always stays just below half way and im on a stock thermostat. My IAT's on the old turbo running 1.5 bar which was just on the edge of its ability, after a solid hour of tuning / power runs never got above 40'c and coolant still below 1/2 way. I dont have an oil temp sensor but if that was overheating, it should show on the coolant + id have a cracked head by now!

I am going to put a slit in the side vent blocking plate on the passenger side tho just so i can get some better airflow to the air filter..

i used to have my oil cooler mounted there but the oil never got hot cos it doesnt have a thermostate in the oil cooler system, may fit that back in the place but put a thermostate in the line, i wasnt going to block the n/s vent they is going to be left open :thumleft: my coolant thermostate is a TRD which opens 10 degress earlier than standard :thumleft:

Next, increase the hole size on the arc-alike box and run an ally velocity stack style intake. 8)
