This is one of the reasons i got rid of the standard wheels, in 225/50/15 there is sod all if you want some proper performance tyres.

If you don't like/can't find a tyre that you want then your only choice is to upgrade the wheels i'm afraid.

The Falken ZE912 are alright, but they really aren't made for 250hp sports cars.

I run Uniroyal Rainsport 2's on mine 205-50-16 up front 225-50-16 at the back. running 265whp (309hp)

I really like them. bags of dry grip and they really are great in the wet. I wouldn't worry about over steer in the wet I was really surprised just how much grip there is you have to be driving pretty soft to get it out of shape (like racing or really on it). they give me loads of confidence and it just nice to know if you really need to anchor on they'll pull you up and they are one if not the best if you hit standing water. which i know isn't that often but its nice having it.

a dry blast on the twisty stuff the other week left me beaming (was really pushing) i'm sure there are better dry tyres like the toyo r888 but to get the most out of them you'd have to be driving so hard that you really should be on a track

I'd have liked to try the Continental Contisportcontact 3 but the don't do them on the fronts in my sizes.. gutted may do 15s didn't look when i got mine

I know I'm in a n/a but T1-Rs are an excellent road tyre. Get the 205/50 up front to banish understeer and bear with the rears at higher pressures for 250 miles when first fitted and you'll be fine. Tubbies and n/as weigh pretty much the same and they inspire confidence in all conditions on mine with the 'Gino' geo set up. Rev 1 though with pretty much track suspension....

OK spoke with Yokohama UK this morning. No UK stock, no stock incoming. The A022 has gone the way of the dodo.

Michael from Blackcircles;

I am afraid that I am currently unable to locate any stock of your required tyre and am therefore unable to offer a price at present – please accept my apologies for this.

At the moment, I do not know where else you could try to get hold of these tyres. My only advise would be to try any other online companies to see if they have any in stock. Alternatively, you could try going to Yokohama direct.

Please let me know if I can be of any further help.

Yokohama NL didn't want to help me.

So, what should I do... Hankook ?

Why is it that you don't want toyo t1rs?

Avoid Nexen N2000 - they are seriously crap. They came on my old car and I nearly lost it a couple of times in the rain just pootling about.

Looks like it will have to be T1R's for me. Have heard they are a bit 'squidgy' on the rear but on the plus side it will look nice having matching tread patterns all round.

Because of the reviews;

-need to play with pressure
-need lot of km's to wear in
-tire wall flex
-not really progressive

T1R's might be good, but on a bigger size, with less profile.

And personal experience, managed to spin the wheels even in 2nd gear.
On 16" Supra alloys.
On dry road !!! And in a straight line, the back end just started to dance away.
Scared the crap out of me atm, because it was a narrow road with trees on both sides.
Gotta love the MR2 :thumleft:

I'm really looking for something better. More grip and progressive.

I do hear people talk about Goodyear Eagle F1... but do they come in the correct sizes ?

No. :(

I'm one of the people that don't like the T1R in 15" sizes. They never felt right even after playing with the pressures and putting plenty of miles on them. They were fine when I had them on my 17s though.

The Hankook RS2 seems to get decent reviews, apart from not being great in the wet. I think I'd go for that rather than the Falken 912.

If you want a big step up in performance from the t1r then your only choice is bigger wheels, the falken ze912 certainly won't be what you'd want.

My car is up for sale, that´s why the Ray´s went off.
So other/larger alloys isn't an option.

Does more expensive mean better in the tyre-scene?

Because the Hankooks come at 96 pounds, and the T1R at 85 pounds.

I think I'll be going for the RS2 Z 212's ... :-k

Just to show you the differences in prices compared to the Netherlands.
The T1R in 225/50/15 costs €169,-

To get 2 of them fitted and balanced etc... : €380,-

Did some reading on the Hankook.

Turns out they are "semi-slicks"... They give immens grip when warm.
In rain, when cold, they need to be handled with caution.

Why not nexxens? I have a pair I think on the rear. Used them once on a track day (but not driving/braking *that* fast). Seem ok so far ...

Got them on my current alloys.

Can't tell anything bad about them either.
A bit soft albeit ... but might try higher pressures. But they are at 2.5bar already :-k

Got a few scary moments with them as well (perhaps my own fault), but didn't spun, and they (or me, or the car??) kept me going straight.

But I just believe there's got to be something better ?

Yes, quite possibly! :)

I see that as well as doing budget tyres (and I'm obviously interested in what that means in wear and performance; I wouldn't mind if they wore quickly if they stuck fast!), I see they do performance ones:

In addition to the price increase, Nexen’s parent company, Nexen Tyre Corp, has transferred the moulds for its SB702 all-season high performance tyre from China to Korea. This will enable the company to avoid paying the increased tariffs on China-made tyres imported to the US.

I don't know which I have.

well its getting warmer why not try the toyo R888? you can put a winter tyre on when the weather turns and just take it very easy in the wet? I'd love to try them on mine but i'd need a set of 15s.

Hmm... I don't know.
It's getting warmer yes, but we tend to get rain as well. And I don't know how a "slick" will handle in rain/aquaplaning...

I'm doing about 1800km a month.
And when I need to drive 200km on a highway in rain with slicks... :-k
then I'll doubt it will be a relaxing drive...

Besides, will it fit without cutting/rolling the arches ?

Toyo R888 are expensive enough in this country, i'd be scared to look at the prices in Holland after seeing how much the T1Rs are over there.
