Dizzy cap? That will be £390+ VAT at Toyota!

Post by ryan »

Well it seems you cant buy a dizzy cap from Toyota anymore without buying the whole distributor! The parts guy who was quite unhelpful showed me on their EPC, and I looked it up on the EPC here, part no for dizzy cap is same as for the whole assembly! How can they do this?

Thats what I thought, but if you look at the EPC on here its same part number for distributor and the dizzy cap, same as the EPC the guy at Toyota parts had #-o

It may come as part of the whole distributor assembly, but you can buy it separately - I bought lots in the past when making Copper Contact Dizzy caps up for Group Buy's.

I don't have the part number to hand, but FWIW
19101-88364 used to be the part number for a UK 96-on NA, and I think that it also suitable for a Rev3-on Turbo. Get Mr T to cross check against your VIN.

The whole distributor assembley (expensive)

19100-88364 DISTRIBUTOR ASSY 01.11.1993-01.08.1999 3SGTE..SW20

19100-88460 DISTRIBUTOR ASSY 01.11.1993-01.12.1997 3SGE..SW20

Just the cap (not as expensive)

19101-88364 CAP SUB-ASSY, DISTRIBUTOR 01.11.1993-01.08.1999 3SGTE..SW20

19101-88460 CAP SUB-ASSY, DISTRIBUTOR 01.11.1993-01.12.1997 3SGE..SW20

Best place to order parts from IMO. Comes quicker than my Toyota can get in most times also...

Mite aswell revive this thread rather than starting a new one.

Does anyone no were i can buy a copper dizzy cap for the rev 3 tubby?

As i popped in my local toyota dealers (I refuse to use blueprint items) to buy a stock replacement and the prices have shot up, the cap alone is £85 +VAT im not paying that for a stock replacement, so may aswell fit a copper dizzy and rotor arm, Just cant seem to find one, any ideas anyone?

Cheers Gav

A "copper contact" cap is a modified original cap....
I always used original Toyota caps when making them, but BluePrint have modified their moulding now and are just as good.

I#ve made a few over the years as did Ben Formesyn, I don't know anyone else at present.

You can search the internet for the procedure (Mark Summers copper contact distributor cap)

I think I still have a Rev1 cap done, but no Rev2/3's

what's the process?

do you use ready made copper parts or have to shape them too?

any info would be great.

I got some prices from Toyota on Saturday and here they are...
Distributor cap 19101-88364 = £68.02 + vat
Rota arm 19115-88280 = £16.05 + vat

These are for a rev 3 turbo :thumleft:
