newbie, looking at a mr2 turbo :)

Post by stoksie »

hey guys, currently driving an astra sri turbo, planning on selling up and getting an MR2 turbo as i love how they look and rwd and rear engine has big appeal to me so i want to try one :)

any hints, tips or useful info in relation to these cars would be cool and advice on buying one, also wouldnt mind driving one to see how they are before purchasing, so if anyone near the newport south wales or bordon hampshire area fancies taking me out would be well appreciated.

all the same, im Luke and hi :)

Hi Luke, welcome to the club, hope you manage to find what you are looking for.

This is the clubs buying guide, which provides the basics for buying a MK2 MR2 (the rounded one not the wedge shape) which is the one I assume you'll be after.

Am sure there will be more than a few members who can help you out with a ride or looking over one for you.

Don't forget to check our For Sale section as it may have something in there in your price range.

Good luck.

If you get an import make sure there is plenty of paperwork/m.o.t certs/service receipts since it has been over here as it may not have much from its time in japland.

Pop up lights should go up correctly in sync, no crash damage/dodgy paint/replaced bumpers to hide it, listen for wind noise whilst driving and dodgy seals which may leak (especially T-bar models),is the toolkit/spare wheel in the trunk, bolster wear on seats, gear crunching, knocks from suspension/has suspension been upgraded (especially rev 1s!).

All catches to pop trunk/bonnet/boot should work, does the ariel go up and down as it should,is the speedo working correctly(mechanical speedo rev1`s very prone to failure),temp gauge working correctly, wingmirrors and windows should not wobble, interior lights/electric windows/mirrors(not all have electric folding) should work..

Check for wet carpets, does the aircon work if it has it,any rasping/blowing from exhaust when driving, has it had a coolant change, cambelt change,oil/oil filter/air filter/dizzy cap/rotar/ignition leads/spark plugs recently, check oil level and check under oil cap for any mayo like residue.

Sorry just seen this reply, I'm in Dering Lines mate. Drop me a line if you fancy a spin in it, I got a load of jobs I need to do on it tomorrow so the car won't be moving much tomorrow.
