My Modified Aquamarine T-Bar rev 2 with Gen 4 BEAMS red top

Post by RST »

I’m going to regret this but I am listing my MR2 up for sale. I have decided to list both this and the Aristo as one needs to go and I need a small 4x4 instead considering the ever poorer winter weather we're getting these days.

I have owned the car for a little over 4 and a half years. Originally a rev 2 UK GT-i T-Bar it was exported to Malta for a few years with a guy in the RAF then imported back. The current license plate is an Oxford area one but the car steadily made it’s way up to Aberdeen before I bought it from a lady in Ayr and It’s been with me in Inverness since.

The car has ALWAYS attracted positive comments from passers by, particularly for the colour which suits it well and isn't that common on the road.

The main modification since has been to replace the original unmodified gen 2 3SGE with a lightly modified gen 4 3SGE (red top) from a JDM G-Ltd. The chassis has approximately 113,000miles with 83,000miles on the red top. The engine was purchased as a complete package from NVI and the swap was conducted by Rogue Motorsport. Coming from a donor SW20 it has the gen 4 5 speed M/T gearbox and factory fit LSD. It was then lightly tuned 2 years ago including a conversion from MAF to MAP using a Link G3 XLEM ECU. Any of the tuning work so far was done by Lyndon Sharp and the car was originally road and dyno mapped at the now defunct Race Shack in Tewkesbury. The dyno session pulled 183Bhp at the wheels which at a conservative estimate is 218Bhp at the fly, running on BP Ultimate then and ever since. A good bit more should be able to be pulled out of the engine with a couple of simple bolt-on mods and a re-map.

The colour is Aquamarine Pearlescent, code 746 and the car was stripped and re-sprayed in early to mid 2008 which included new windscreen, all new side trims (thinner ones which are found on later revs), new seals throughout and the addition of a high level rear brake light. The rear light clusters are new items as is the rear centre vallance. The colour scheme on the car is Aqua, black and red apart from the wheels which are Anthracite.

I have a fairly extensive service history package and a huge amount of receipts. I also have copies of the import documentation for the engine and of course, the V5 is present and reflects the new engine number. Some of the original sales documents survive as does the glove box owners manual. The car was regularly serviced before and I have always serviced it twice a year when it had the gen 2 engine and 3 times a year since.

The sequence of the mods going on isn’t important so I’ve just listed everything as it is now (there's a few more bits and bobs but this is pretty complete)…

There’s always some bad bits. There is a small amount of paint work required: light bubbling on the sides of the rear spoiler, not flaking but needs addressing at some point. There is a small amount of adjustment required on the doors as they catch the side skirts, the underside edges of the doors and the line along the skirts need touching up. There is some bubbling in the front boot around the rubber seal. I have sourced a very close matching 2K paint and a 1/4L tin will be included. I don’t think I will get the chance to address this.

The car has obviously been used and has a few stone chips on the front. There are however no dings or car park bashes on the sides –everything’s as straight as an arrow!

…Now the tough part. According to my spreadsheet which doesn’t include ongoing maintenance the car owes me well in excess of £20,000. I can’t get back what I want for it but the price at the moment is a flat £4,000. Consider please the bodywork, the engine, the ECU including the LCD display, the chassis mods and the Recaro recliners and tot up the individual costs of getting there. Included in the current price will be the original gen 4 CAT and the original OEM ECU which is worth £300 itself although some modification of the connectors will be required if you want to revert back. There will also be one IAT sensor to replace the OEM MAF at some point (will free up some Bhp after a re-map)and a replacement oil pressure sender as the current one doesn't work properly with the Link -price for these two was £100 recently.

The only way the price can come down is if I start removing some of the parts such as seats, steering wheel, LCD ECU display, DVD player etc etc.

The car is too dirty to photograph at the moment but the pics I have are representative and they’ll be updated as soon as I can.

Test drives are welcome but please bear in mind that I work in Aberdeen during the week, the car will be Inverness normally, parked up off the main road and I need some notice to organise a visit in either place. You are welcome to drive it if you have fully comprehensive insurance.

Price as always is listed. No offers, dibbs or delayed payments –any comments posted on the thread relating to knocking down the price will be asked to be removed immediately. Test drives welcomed however you accept that if you damage the car during the test that you have automatically bought it for £7,000 which is the current insurance value. You must bring a photocopy of fully comprehensive insurance cover. Car is sold as seen and described as fully and accurately as reasonably possible. Always read the small print –it’s important!

I think I forgot to say the other night...

MOT is up now so it'll have another year on it very soon
Tax is currently until end March 2011

It's a very clean car inside -almost mint. I could drop the price by £250 straight off by re-fitting the original rev 2 steering wheel (good condition) and re-fitting the original head unit which I still have -no CD player unit though. The car would of course be fully serviced before parting with it.

Thanks for the comments guys. Sorry for the late reply. Believe it or not if I try and access imoc in my new office it only let me access the home page and links through to the MK2 section -everything else just times out. I don't want to sell but I have to be sensible. I'm not taking the mick with costs and what's on offer. There's a synergy going on and I priced it well.

I haven't listed it quite yet mate though I have a draft advert at the moment ready to go. The Aristo is my daily commuter and as I live away from home week days it's ideal apart from the threat of winter -it has a CEL light come on when the second turbo kicks in hard (no error codes) and an O/D off lamp on (which is a code 42 weak speedo signal to ECU for more than 8s) but it doesn't seem to affect driving in any way -just seems to put the lamps on on the dash. I have to get to the bottom of those somehow before I'd list it rather than just pulling bulbs like I think was done before I got it.

I managed to sort out winter storage within 200 yds of my front door!

As if you hadn't guessed I wasn't keen selling anyway but the add is now withdrawn as I can tuck it away and I have "winterised" the Aristo for driving through it.

Jamie -tried calling you but as I've changed phones with the recent job change I'm not sure I copied the number properly. I'll drop you an E-Mail as I have some spare storage space after the MR2 and a set of summer tyres off the Aristo etc. If you want to chuck anything in there in the back also you're welcome.
