Mr2 mk1 mica blue t-bar. Tax & Test £400, engine needs looking at.

Post by BarronMR »

Hey folks.

Main problem is after recently swapping the engine due to big end failure, the low mileage (35k) replacement has developed a tap. More noticeable when cold, when warm you can hardly hear it.

I've driven the car for a couple of hundred miles like this and the noise has not got any worse.

I'm certain its not the big ends again, I've visually checked bearings and measured the clearances and all are in the middle of the tolerance. So could be a problem in the head or little end.

I've lost interest in the car and have too many projects on the go, (2x V6 mr2's).

So here it is available as a good little project for someone with the time, that can be driven if the radiator is sorted.

Details:

  • Mica blue 125k, t-bar.
Has rare but non-functioning air-con, needs compressor and re-gas.
Arches are all good having been replaced a few years ago. Having said that there are some marks where the paint has been chipped, but not rusty yet.
Paint is generally pretty good, has been resprayed at some point but previous owner has attempted to paint the pinstripes on the bumper and over a few blemishes. Also has some fading and peel on the bonnet, this may t-cut out.
17inch alloys all in reasonable condition and tires have some life left.
    Clear side and front indicators.
Sony stereo, unfortunately the install is a slightly bodged affair with speakers in the headrests.
Interior is a bit worn but not too bad for a 21yr old car.
    Radiator now leaks.
Can't remember how long test is but at least 6months and tax for 2 months.

More pics available.

Price is £400.

Maybe willing to break at a later date, stick it on ebay or pop a v6 in .

If it helps I can make drivable again as I have a rad in my other mk1 that holds its water.

If the car was worth more money I'd offer to deliver halfway but as is its just not worth it.

Update - I've added some pictures of the chassis where I have found some rust. The car passed an MOT inspection in this condition and the area's are small and easily weldable, a garage wouldn't charge much to pop a patch over the two areas.

Its a final call for keeping it as a runner, from this weekend I will be breaking the engine and drive train.

Reasonable offers considered. 8)

Been to see this, and it is actually quite solid and the welding needing doing is quite simple enough to sort out. Bits of paintwork need a touch up or 2 but as a cheap car, it's not bad at all for the money b
