Question about MR2 meet up days...

Post by sms1982 »

Are there any where you just turn up and like just look at each others cars or do like a slow parade cos i don't wanna race my tubby in case i damage it. Sorry but i love her too much to take the risk.

If there is i'll come to an event i just don't wanna come quite yet cos she's only a standard unmodified non-turbo and compared to some of the cars on this website mine will look boring so i'll bring her along when i've added some attitude to her look.

What are these events like, i have no idea.

There are loads of local meets like that mate, check out the event section where you put this post for meets in your area, & don't worry about sprucing up your car, you will be most welcome in any state :)

Hardly any meets involve 'racing' in all honesty.

Doesn't matter if your car isn't modified. Sound advice would be to meet and chat to those who have already modded their MR2 as they'll have the advice and experience on the way to go and any pitfalls etc.. There are a significant proportion of owners who do not modify their MR2s externally, so your car will not look out of place.

best way to find out is to turn up.
at my first meet the wings on my 2 were held together with silver gaffer tape and no-one cared.
most people are enthusiastic about the cars, the plans for the cars and the driving experience.
you basically just have to bite the bullet, at my first JAE i went on my own and knew no-one but now have some good friends.
no-one will look down on your car and everyone is friendly, i have to say the meets are much better than the peugeot ones i have attended in the past.
I am going to live forever, or die trying!

nearly all meets i've been to have been the chilled perusal around car park kind (sometimes small groups of people have been known to go off to secret locations for street racing - but this is obviously their choice)
any car is usually v.welcome as, at-the-end-of-the-day, we are all enthusiasts.
check out the midlands meet posts, also mascrat manor is good.

dont worry sms 1982

i only attended my first one the other week (bluewater, kent) i felt the same as you, thought people may turn their nose up at mine as it was completely standard and dull looking compared to most other cars on here, but i was told and quite right they were that...... ''i you have a 2 you have respect fullstop regardless!!!''

people are polite and friendly and always seem happy to help, if you attend the bluewater meet at all let me know and ill help make you feel welcome mate

Even the trackday events don't involve 'racing' against other cars. :)

As per the Bluewater thread, displays of stupidity just annoy the other people there, and you never know, turning up with a standard car might be cool - might be the only standard one there
