JGTC GT300 Mr2

Post by Will_bmx »

Anyone got anymore details on it rather than just "capped to 300bhp"?
I'm after the weight of it etc as I had the idea to turn mine into a sort of roadgoing tribute to it (sad I know, but I don't want big horsepower figures as it's a daily driver)
cheers in advance :)

They were capped to 300BHP and there was a 500 one as well.

There already exists a road going tribute - thats why TRD made the the TRD2000GT to celebrate their wins in 1998/99.

See my translation of brochure here:

Put 'jgtc sw20' in youtube and you can see them racing :-)

I can't help you too much with the specific car but there are some awesome engine shots here from the JGTC Supra, which was also 3S-GTE powered and entered into the GT300 category:

Absolutely awesome.

I could have sworn the JGTC supras used some sort of race specific 4cyl motor and not the 3sgte but those pictures proved me wrong.

If I can find it I took a decent shot of the Toms Castrol Supras enginebay at goodwood a whileback. The airbox setup looks pretty different to the one on that car tho.

Well that's specifically the TRD JGTC entry, so I'm sure there were plenty of other Supras running all kinds of setups. Didn't one of the TOM's ones run a 3S-GTE as well though?

Ahh no nevermind I think I got it mixed up, the motor i'm talking about is the 503E. In this article.

http://www.toysport.com/technical%20inf ... rticle.htm

The most famous and successful Toyota Race engine- the 503E was used in Toyota's Triumphant Championship seasons in IMSA GTO / GTP, Pikes Peak, Le Mans, and in the mid-90s Japan Touring Cup Championship. It is important to note that the 16 valve cylinder head layout from the 152E engine and the T block crankshaft saddle design were used as design base for this ultimate Toyota 4 cylinder Turbocharged race engine. The 503E represented the most powerful 4 cylinders in competition history developing over 1000HP in qualifying tune, 800HP for sprint races, and 600 for endurance events. IMPRESSIVE.

According to that it was never used in the JGTC, but the JTCC. Sounds like a beast of a motor tho, would be funny if someone got their hands on one and stuck it in an MR2.

The funniest thing about the supra is that they developed the 2JZ motor for racing but it ended up being too heavy and making the cars weight ballance poo. So they used the 3sgte instead. I know near the end of the supras lifetime in JGTC/SuperGT they started using a V8 truck motor instead as I guess they were able to move the motor position back/down a bit more.
