Hi All,
Here is some footage of one of the 2GRFE equipped MR2 Roadsters that will be racing at Anglesey this weekend in the MR2 Super GT series. The video was taken last Friday at Snetterton and is the first time the car has been driven in anger - it can't really be pushed on public roads due to the rate at which it exceeds the speed limits!

As you can see, the car is not yet complete - the flat underbody and front splitter need finishing and then the cars off to be resprayed and liveried. It should be finalised before next month's Brands Hatch meeting.

Do you have an "off the shelf" price for one of these or is it dependant on donor vehicles and spec?
Re: 3.5 litre 2GRFE V6 MR2 Roadster
a work of art chaps, really is ace to see this level of R&D in what most would consider "just a garage", proving you are cut from a different cloth
Re: 3.5 litre 2GRFE V6 MR2 Roadster
It sounds the part!!
I know almost nothing about these engines, what sort of power?

About 280bhp out of the box with similar (~290) torque's...sounds like a lotta fun: torque available from about 8rpm

Manifold, decat, exhaust induction is meant to yield around 320hp on these.
Possibly more if mapped, but bear in mind you need an ECU that will deal with the dual VVti.

Not really - it depends on a lot of things, but it's by no means a budget option. It can be done cheaper than we've done it with the race cars that we've built though since they've got a lot of motorsport specific options.

Lotus have upgraded the 2GRFE in the Evora to 4.0 litres and 400PS with what they describe as "mild" headwork (and obviously some rod / piston / crank funkiness). We have a good idea how to achieve this and it's on the cards for the future.

We're using the Link G4 Xtreme which is controlling both the Quad VVTi and the drive by wire throttle.
Re: 3.5 litre 2GRFE V6 MR2 Roadster
Oh cool, I knew Link were working on adding the capability to control the VVTi system but wasnt aware it was now available

Thor Racing put in the graft to provide Link with an engine position solution for the 2GRFE, so all credit to them for that. The first 2GRFE conversion we did (a mk2 tarmac rally car) ran without VVT control for it's first event:

Actually, more than half of what we do at the moment is racing or motorsport related and it's the direction that the company is expanding into. I'm very keen that we don't lose sight of our roots though and we'll always be there for the more mundane and routine jobs too.

thats a cracking car
i aways dismissed the mk3 thinking it was too slow... but with a bit (ok alot) of work its faster than a mk2 turbo
