sealing the oil sump

Post by chri5 »

whats the best to use to seal the sump???
i resealed mine but its dripping still.
i used halfords instant gasket.
is there a gasket available???

i know there is 2 or 3 bolts out but none are near each other so i thought it'd be ok.
is there any pressure in the sump???

How did you apply the sealant?

Best thing to do is squeeze a smear of it onto a bit of cardboard and keep poking at it until you know it's going tacky.
Once you know how long it takes, run a bead of it around the sump and leave it for that length of time before fitting it to the car.

If you simply apply it and then tighten it into place it'll all squeeze out as you tighten the bolts.

Might help.

FWIW, I did mine using silicon bathroom sealant.
Again, just apply it, leave it to go tacky and then fit.
Sorted!
