MR2 Championship - TV Coverage Motors TV 21st April

Post by WillJohnson »

The 2nd day of the 750MC Snetterton race meeting was covered in 2 programs (first shown 7th and 21st April).

For anyone not on Sky/cable, the program will be available on-line from 22nd on http://www.raceandrallyuk.tv

The first program is available on-line right now for another 10 days or so. You get a brief glimpse of the MR2s a couple of mins into part 1 and again at the end of part 4 in the teaser for Program 2. But what a teaser!

As you would expect, they have focussed on one of the race incidents. Quite spectacular, no injuries, but nearly put myself and Andrei Bgatov #55 out for the rest of the season. Thankfully both cars were repaired and back at the sharp-end at the Castle Combe just 3 weeks later.

Cheers John #77

I asked God for a bike, but I know God doesn't work that way. So I stole a bike and asked for forgiveness.

There was very little car contact, so I wouldn't say it was like bumper cars! Take a look at the Formula Four race (which should be in part 3) and see how they got on!

Conditions were very tricky as the weather changed. As the commentator suggested the track seemed to be wetter from Russells Chicane, along the Senna Straight and through Riches and Sear. Coram seemed dry enough for drivers to carry more speed than they were able to brake coming into Russells and you'll see that the first three cars get caught out by it but the chasing pack see what happens and are more cautious.

Rain always makes things interesting! Good to see the 2's on telly, and good to see Paul Hinson doins so well already! :thumleft:

What are the rules regarding using the pit lane to overtake?

I've asked several C of C's and got conflicting responses. However, from last weekends F1 antics I think it's fairly safe to consider that the pit lane is considered to be part of the race circuit...

Mark had originally planned to race in the Ginetta G50 series this year but couldn't raise the budget. So he bought an MR2 of uncertain provenance at the last minute and entered that in the MR2 Championship instead. It was clear in the first race that the car was consuming it's oil and the cloud following his car got progressively worse. Repairs were made between races, but sadly it couldn't make the distance in the second, longer race and seized once it's oil supply had run out.

Mark has since decided to realise his ambition to race at Spa and is rebuilding the car with a higher performance normally aspirated engine to compete in the Future Classics series (which has a round at Spa) and the MR2 Super GT.
