I have just bought a MK2 G Limited 1991.
Strange fault really.
After 60 seconds stationery the power steering fails.
That is 60 seconds stationery regardless of whether you work the steering wheel or leave alone.
either way it will fail at about 60 seconds. Once the car is moving up to 2 or 3 mph the power steering returns.
Another way to get it working again is to simply turn off the ignition and restart.
I can hear the pump working and after around 60 second
(stationery,) I then hear the pump wine down to a halt. Also there is a continuous high pitch noise coming from the metal box of tricks that is mounted to the bulk head to the passenger side of the battery.
..marked Power Steering. Do you have any idea where this fault might lie, how to go about diagnosing or sombody to contact with experiance of such a fault?
