To Boost what mods are needed - REV3

Post by Xmun7 »

I am thinking of increasing the boost level to 1.1 bar, but am not sure what is needed and what is the best way around it.

Current Engine State:
-Stock Internals
-Stock IC
-Fuel Pressure Regulator
-Blitz Induction Kit
-HKS SSQV BOV
-Stainless Steel Scorpion Exhaust (CAT still in place)
-Colder Grade Plugs (NGK)
-Magnecor 8.5mm ignition Leads
-Lightened Flywheel
-Clutchmasters FX200 sports clutch

Is it going to be sufficient to just purchase a boost controller and then arrange the fuel pressure, is it better to get an electronic or manual, do i need a piggyback ecu. This car is a daily runner so it needs to be reliable at the same time

A uprated IC will be best before upping the boost.

yup as above, a decat would help with flow as well.

but mainly just a good ebc will do the trick.... i would fire it on the rollers quick just to check the afr's but imports run so dam rich anyway i doubt it will be running unsafe

Hmmm so an aftermarket ecu or piggyback ecu is not essential, you can run a higher boost without problems, will look into an aftermarket IC and boost controller then, i cannot really decat due to MOT. Also what should i go for a manual / electronic boost controller, i have read that a manual boost controller would not hold the boost while the electronic one would make good for fluctuations and keep boost constant. Is that correct?

Thing is i have recently transplanted a Rev3 Turbo engine into it, isnt the Rev3 1995 thus meaning i cannot remove the CAT?

Nope, It takes the oldest part either chasis or engine :thumleft:

Have a read here

An older engine fitted to a vehicle will be tested to the age of the engine (evidence needed). A newer engine fitted to an older car will be tested to the age of the car i.e whichever is the oldest.

Hmm, that sounds interesting i will have to see how this applies in Malta. If so i would then be able to boost to 1.2 bar (with an uprated IC) probably or is that over the top ?

I have :

3" exhaust (HKS)
3" downpipe (Berk)
Open airfilter (Apexi
Upgraded SMIC (Greddy).

I run this, without an EBC or MBC. and I get between 1 and 1.1 bar.

So free the flow and temperature and the boost will raise automatically.

Just got to know that for the MOT i wont have a problem as i will be tested based on the year of the car not the engine, now im not sure if i should custom fabricate a downpipe or just buy one ready made

renow, actually the temperature will not raise it will lower, when you replace the exhaust with a more free flowing one you reduce pumping losses and therefore decrease the effort needed by the turbocharger to generate the same boost pressure and decrease losses via heat generation.

it's the main reason that larger turbos make more power for the same boost level
