Being a new member and having only been converted to the art of rear wheel drive in the last six months im still a little green behind the ears.
I am after some advice on trye replacement for my 2001 MR2 roadster rubber.
It is currently shod with Avon ZV3 50r15's with 195 front and 205 rear the rears are now in need of replacment. Can anyone recommend a performance tyre which would give me a good level of grip in the dry as well as the wet! as the car is driven enthusiastically but i dont want to get used to drifting and opposite lock on a regular basis.....
Is is also recommended that the whole set is replaced or is it ok to just change the rears as the fronts still have 4/5mm in them.
Many thanks for any feedbak : Franticfox :

Re: Roadser Tyre Choice ?
never ever mix brands or model on the roadster
either change all 4 or get the same again
personally I'd go for toyo t1rs in 185/55/15 front and 205/50/15 rear
shouldn't cost more than £200 for the lot

+1
Do what Mark said. And definitely don't ever mix brands, and always replace across an axle at the same time (i.e. both fronts or both rears).

Re: Roadser Tyre Choice ?
They say its best not to have mis matched tyres on a roadster.
Switch to Toyo's as they didn't have the size or the budget at the time to go for my Good year eagle f1's.
The Toyo's seem ok, but given the choice from driving on f1's and toyo's id go F1's.
Will be switching back once these tyres are dead.

Hi,
Have you considered Marangoni Tyres? Cheaper equivilent to the Toyo T1-R.
Check the tyre section on www.centurymotorsport.com for prices and info.

Nathan

Shame Marangoni don't do the 225 16's or i'd be having a set.
Think it'll have to be Toyo's.

Thanks for all the feedbak , looks like TOYO's it is , although my local dealer has had some trouble sourcing 205/50/15's no probs with the 195/50/15's Franticfox

Re: Roadser Tyre Choice ?
toyo proxies are good esp in wet but take a long time to scrub in
Advan Neovas from Elise are awesome
Hankook RS2s are good- better than proxy for track work, good value too
Kumho KU31 are good- comparable to Proxy

Oops yes your right they are the Pilot Exalto Sport 2
Re: Roadser Tyre Choice ?
Wait, are they Pilot Exalto or Pilot Sport? Clicky for difference
Re: Roadser Tyre Choice ?
Scratch that, must be Exaltos as they don't do the PS2 in Roadster sizes.

Re: Roadser Tyre Choice ?
I had GY Eagle F1s on my mk3 wheels on my mk1. Couldnt fault them at all!
Toyo T1Rs are crap in the wet but very hard wearing tyre indeed!
Im running Vredestein Sportrac 2s at the moment. I originally thought they were xxxx in the wet, but they've worn in now and they are xxxx hot!!

lolwut
T1-Rs are very very good in the wet, it's the reason that people buy them. They're merely average in the dry and rubbish if you dare to show them a track.

Just checked and mine are PE2
