Side Vent Mod...

Post by Clarky »

Hi all,

I want to have a go at getting rid of the centre bar on the side vent.

But incase I make a complete balls up of it I'm going to get some second hand ones.

My question is (sorry if its a stupid one) are all the side vents the same from rev1 - rev5

I have a rev3 (not the one in the garage) and have my eye on some from a rev2.

Cheers

Just out of interest, was there any purpose to the centre bar? or is it purely styling?

They are all the same as I fitted some rev3 ones to mine which my missus had cut out and filled.

Thats very decent mad1 but 'dingleburg' has beaten you to it! :D

Over whelmed by peoples generosity

I'm gonna take my time with it and take lots of pics but if all else fails i know a man who can!

Plus I have spotted a group buy with some carbon scoops which I quite fancy

Nice work there Kayjay, looks particularly nice on a white car

Couple of questions if you don't mind.

Did you fibre glass the back.

Was that plastic primer you used.

Alright three question then

What mesh did you opt for (just curious)

:D

Think I got a set with the middle cut out already. I'll check tomorrow for you. You can have them and save your own.

what i did was to cut out the centre section on the vents ,cut a v sort of shape from this to fill in the cut out section , then fibreglassed the back of the vent and filled up the small gap on the front

used ordinary filler primer from halfords

went for black mesh (from a car shop in Romford) although i am sure halfords, B&Q or car shop should stock it

next mod hopefully is a carbon fibre scoop from a group buy on here :D :D

Just thought I would update my thread.

Had these done by early summer by amazingly for me hadn't taken any pics!

Its the first time I had a play with fibre glass which is surprisingly easy to use.

The filling took sometime to get right.

The first one went really well but the second was a right pain in the ar$e, tried to put some filler primer over the black just to get rid of a minor blemish only for the paint to react and bu88er the whole thing twice!

Had to strip the whole thing right back in the end to stop paint reactions.

But in the end I was very happy with the results.

Again, got to say a big thank you to dingleburg :thumleft:
