Should i sell or not?
Im being careful not to make this a classified ad so wont put any details of the car.
My dilemma is i have a tubby that to be honest doesnt get used much. I have 2 daughters that i see every other weekend and i tend to use the car just going to the gym 3 times a week and just to shops etc. Prob gets used for about 10 miles a week if that.
My girlfriend has now found out shes pregnant and even though she says i dont have to sell my pride and joy im wondering if its worth keeping hold of it as its gonna be used even less for shop visits etc and if anything just used for the gym.
She has a 3dr mgzr which we could manage with but im wondering is it worth keeping the tubby as i dont think it will be used much at all.
Its currently mot`d for another 6 months but i havent taxed it due to xmas and saving my money at the mo.
What would you guys do?

Re: Should i sell or not?
personally i was in similar situation.
i really didnt see the need for the car so in the end i sold it, you can always buy another later on should you feel the need to have another.
also at the point of having a new baby it free'd up quite a bit of spare income at a very important time.
mg zr isnt a bad car but id start thinking about something a bit bigger as once you get pushchair, changing bags, spares, the boot on mg is large but you soon find it filled

Re: Should i sell or not?
Only you can mate the ultimate decision bud, but if you're financially secure and the missus doesnt mind then why not keep the toy. I live in London where I cylcle to work and can use the tram, the tube, buses, the overground and the nightbuses which all run close to me. My car is nothing more than an indulgence, an expensive toy.
At the end of the day I could have a 'normal' car, then on top of that have an expensive hobby. The way Im see it, I haeva hobby that is also a form of transport so can potentially 'save' me money from time to time.
Why not look at specialist policies. Granted the tax is a killer, but if you dont use it that much the saving in fuel should offset that. At a time when stress could start to arrive in bundles (no pun intended), ask yourself just how good it will feel from time to time to climb into that car and go for the freedom seeking spirited drive.
Amen.

Re: Should i sell or not?
why have a car like a tubby if all your going to do is take it to the gym and shops??
do you not go out on the weekends or any weekdays and just "enjoy" the car??
seems like a waste if you dont actually put it through its paces.

Re: Should i sell or not?
I have a work car (new astra estate) with free fuel so tend to use that most the time. But i do over 100 miles a day in it and it gets boring so driving something else is a nice change.
I only use it for the gym and shops through the week and i have my 2 daughters every other weekend so dont use it then. If i havent got my girls then i use it quite a bit over the weekend just going round town etc.
Im thinking if i get a bigger but "fun" car then i can still use it on the days i got my girls. I could also use it with the baby then.
I have been looking for a rover coupe turbo as i absolutely loved the old one i had and have even found it for sale again and offered to do a straight swap though he only wants £1k for his!!! It needs bit and pieces doing to it but id happily sell mine at a lower price if i knew i could get my old coupe back again!

Re: Should i sell or not?
Now for sale in the MR2 For Sale Section and most importantly if i dont sell - IM NOW A PREMIUM MEMBER!!!!!!
Re: Should i sell or not?
lol, why people want to see an Mr2 when just asking question about possible selling
i decide to put my off the road, for project build etc (been there 3 yr ish now)
i also brought a diesal run around, that die, so i bough a ml 270cdi, enough space for the coming baby too and its pram and baby stuff
car may be too small once you fitted baby sits etc on it

Re: Should i sell or not?
ive been offered a bmw 328i sport coupe which looks real nice but only prob is its an auto. Has fsh and 10 months mot and a bit of tax.
Only things that puts me off is the auto, and im finding the insurance is alot more than the turbo!

Re: Should i sell or not?
I didn`t use my 2 at all this year, thought about selling it but 2 things stopped me.
1. The money i`d lose because this type of market is very slow.
and
2.Sometime i find myself just staring out of the window looking at it because there a master piece of automotive art

Re: Should i sell or not?
I have a similar problem in that I only did maybe 3k across the 2 MRs last year, mainly because I commute and am onlt around at the weekends. I also use the train / bus a lot more than I used to.
I love it when I do get in, though!

Re: Should i sell or not?
Its a hard choice. At the mo, the mr2 tubby seems the better choice for what ive been offered. Its insured as a classic so insurance is cheap and the tax isnt too bad.Mot isnt till may and apart from a good polish its in good nick. However the bmw coupe ive been offered is more in tax (2.8l) and insurance is more as i cant insure it as a classic - but the upside is i can get the kids in it so would be used slightly more.
Id would of liked to keep with the turbo as a LOVE dump valve noises! But as mine is a rev2 and i cant run one it seems pointless anyway!

Re: Should i sell or not?
My car is a Rev 2 and has a dump valve?
Re: Should i sell or not?
i would do a bit research on the bmw i
auto and i (petrol) could drink more then the tubby
try to source a diesal for bmw, they are heavy car, and drive abit hence you see a price gap between petrol and diesal model, but bmw diesal model have a lot of non starting problem

Re: Should i sell or not?
bluesmoke - read up on it. Rev 1&2 use air low meters and dump valves dump to air so having a dump valve on a rev1 or 2 affects the afm and fuelling which messes up the ecu.

it can mess it up tbh i bought it for the whhhhhhoooopppppttttttsssssshhhhhh tbh
rover coupe turbo was one car on my short list of cars when i sold my xsi.
why not look in to soarers and supra's instead if you have company car with free fuel,
or even better xk8 jag
