latest PS3 firmware update - whats it about?

Post by fizz »

EDIT -

Main features in system software update version 3.15

Data transfer utility
You can now transfer the data that is saved on one PS3 system's hard disk to another PS3 system’s hard disk using an Ethernet cable.

minis
Games under the minis category of PlayStation Store are now supported and are available to download from 17 December 2009.
===========

What data? Saved games for specific users?

i had this update last week lol
the data transfer just lets u transfer ur hdd contents to another ps3, so if u wanna go buy a new ps3 slim and get rid of ur fat one etc u just plug them together via ethernet port and transfer ur contents :thumleft: it also adds support for psp mini's as part of sony's psp emulation so we should see full psp games running on the ps3 soon

I got a PS3 slim, and lost everthing on my fat one - because it died.
If you have a working PS3, why on earth would you buy another one?
Why is each HDD encrypted specifically to each PS3 anyway?

Who wants to play PSP games on their PS3 anyway? :-k

some awesome psp games out there, also i know a fair few people who bought a slim and sold thier fat ps3's. and i suppose its encrypted for the same reason as the xbox 1 hdd. to stop modding....
360 is already fully hackable but so far there has been nothing on ps3

There might be, but AFAIK, these are just 'Minis'.

They could still encrypt them, just not specific to each PS3.
You know, so when your PS3 dies (which it will), you can just put the old HDD into the new one :thumleft: #-o

+1

And let me guess: Instead of a small incremental update like MS do, you have to download the entire OS and update it that way. Great if you've got a nice fat connection, not so great if you're stuck on 512K. [-X

They should have done something about this as soon as the failure problems surfaced.
