LEA 826.....anyone got it, would they recommend it?

Post by Hurstie1981 »

Well basically the question is in the title!

My rev 3 tubby comes at the end of the month, and need to stick some security on it, i was wondering weather to go for a cat 1 alarm like on my old rev 2, or go for this remote start jobbie!

Is it thatchem approved, and also, who fits it, and at what cost, and also, is it worth it or mainly a gimmick?

Thanks

Graham

I have one, has been on the car for nearly a year now, and has performed faultlessly. The pager is very useful, though I need to adjust mine a bit as the proximity sensor is a bit sensitive for street parking. Cat 2 immobiliser is required for insurance puropses, so I got a transponder immobiliser fitted at the same time. All done by Dan @ DC Dezign.

Ahh good to hear, so how much did it set you back in total, including immobiliser?

It cost 500 quid fitted.
For that I got
Remote headlight activation
Remote boot release
Dual Zone (outside and inside) proximity sensor
Remote Start
Cat 2 transponder (on keyring) immobiliser.

Dan did a good job, only thing i'd say is the remote battery needs replacing every 6 months (AAA size), as the remote loses its boot opening signal.

Ive got the pevious model (LEA825) and ive had no problems in over 2 years. Its a fantastic alarm. I didnt bother getting the extra cat 2 imob or the proxy sensors but i did go for remote headlight activation, auto window closure ontop of all the std goodies. Think it was in the region of £350 fitted from Dan.

Ryan did have about every possible option including a Cat II immobiliser (£100 usually on their own)

The system starts from £300 fitted :)

Hi:

Yeah, remote-start is a bit of a gimmick really. I have the Clifford 600 with Intellistart fitted for about 5 years. Alarm is great and has done the job okay, but I can't understand why I paid about £150 extra (at the time) for the Intellistart unit. Could be darned dangerous on a manual, potentially.

Heard a story once about a BMW 5-Series driving itself off a ramp due to a mechanic pressing the wrong button on the key-fob. My MR2 is an auto, so no problems on that score.

I use the Intellistart about 3 times a year as a bit of a joke.

I have this line of patter that says I've had this car SO long (since 1993) that we have gained an understanding. Although the car cannot yet speak I have taught it to recognise my voice and it will obey certain commands like "start engine" and "stop engine". Plus, sometimes it gets a little beyond itself, because it really enjoys driving (being a sports car), and will not switch off when I take out the ignition key.

So then I have to be very "firm" with it and tell it, in no uncertain terms to, "Switch off that engine!" Which it does.

I had a neighbour really fall for this and she actually brought her friend over one day for a demo. I said the car wouldn't do it as he was, "In a mood" and we were, "not talking". The friend laughed it off thinking she was being wound up. But I was deadly serious and I talked to the car and tried to convince him to start. I explained this was a special occasion and a guest was present. So the car eventually agreed.

When the car started she ran off shouting, "OMG, OMG, I DON'T BELIEVE THIS!!!" Was one heck of a laugh I can tell you.

Regards,
Jim
