I know which oil to use and approx how much, just not sure how to change it, any advice/pics?
Where is the drain/fill plug located?
Whats the best method of syphoning the oil in?
Thanks

ok clearly helps to search:

good to go!
Is it possible to fill with just the NSR wheel off jacked level? how can this be done without a ramp?

dont know what that thread says, but you can do it with the one wheel off.
buy yourself and oil syphon, ebay do them for around a tenner.
drop the old stuff, drop the car a few inches until same level as if a wheel was on, and re-syphon the new oil in the top.
refill until it spills.
15 minute job. why some people get these jobs done at garages i'll never know! lol
good luck

Excellent mate, thanks for the info
Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Any pics/how-tos on changing gearbox oil????
Here's some pics of when I did mine...
Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Any pics/how-tos on changing gearbox oil????
So basically drain it out, and refill until it spills out of the fill hole? Nice and easy I need to do mine as well.

Yep, just make sure the car is level (I do mine without removing any wheels).
Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Any pics/how-tos on changing gearbox oil????

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Any pics/how-tos on changing gearbox oil????
I'll be refreshing the MT90 in mine next week (30,000 goes round in a flash) but can't remember quantities off the top of my head. Anyone know how much a UK Rev1 N/A with no LSD requires?
Thanks.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Any pics/how-tos on changing gearbox oil????
I needed 4 bottles of MT-90 for my rev 3 box with LSD, although I now have half a bottle left.
Make sure the filler plug loosens before you drain it, as old oil is better than no oil.
24mm socket for the drain/filler plug.
I made a filler by drilling a hole in the cap of the MT-90 bottle lid, and pushed a tyre valve through it. Cut the valve part off with a hacksaw, and bob's your uncle. Fit a piece of aquatic tube to the valve and poke it in the filler hole.

same. 3.5 bottles of MT90 (1 bottle was a quart I believe) for Turbo with no LSD.

You guys are absolutely awesome
This is why this site is so good, really helpful info here and pics too.
Thanks a ton guys - owe you all a beer, I'm going to do this this week once I've got the Redline in, really appreciate all the helpful info!
The reason I asked about this is because when I boot it and go through the gears, its started crunching in 4th, and when changing down it will crunch in 4th.
If I drive normally it doesnt crunch when going into 4th from 3rd, but will when changing down.
I'm hoping the oil change will sort it (hasent been changed in a very long time), but if not I'm taking it I need a new gearbox?

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Any pics/how-tos on changing gearbox oil????
The crunching gis generally a sign of worn synchro's. Once the synchro's wear out, you 'could' replace them, but probably new gearbox time. A lot of people suggest MT-90 to stop the crunching, but it will only cover the problem for so long.
Removing the turbo isn't too hard either

Ok its definately worth giving the MT90 a go then for a while, where is the best place to source a gearbox, I see Rogue selling reconditioned ones for around £500 or so, is there anywhere else that might not be so hard on the ol bank account!
I take it its worth getting the clutch replaced at the same time if possible? jeese I'm gonna need to do some saving!

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Any pics/how-tos on changing gearbox oil????
Depends on your budget really, and how much you trust people selling used ones. I was on a tight budget, so just took a used one, remember that there are no guarantee's with a used one, ad you won't know if you've been told porkies until you've fitted it
I got lucky I think. Was sold one that had covered just 44k (again, nothing to verify that) and the driveshafts (which I sold as I had working ones already) for just over £300.
Didn't spot what rev you have, but try and source a gearbox from a rev3 or later as they have better synchro's and LSD, but if you get a box with LSD, you need to be sure you have LSD driveshafts. I believe they are slightly sghorter at the gearbox end (but this may be hear-say).

Oh yeah, if you are paying someone to do the work, and you don't know when your clutch was changed, I'd recommend doing that at the same time.

guys, seriously recommend this for gearbox oil changes:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Draper-Oil-Suctio ... 286.c0.m14
makes it so much easier. can be used for other stuff too, i use it now for lawnmower oil changes!
