so you're sure you are being tested against the non cat emission level, rather than the with cat level?

it depends on your car's age though

- around 1995 was the cut off year at which turbos had to be measured against the more strict with cat levels.

cheap tings to do to try and reduce emissions:

- get the mot done when the car is hot

- stick a new air filter in

- clean or replace the plugs

- run redex through the tank

- spray carb cleaner into the trottle body

These worked for me with my old VW.

.but they're intuituve enough.

you could try re-directing the crank breather to atmosphere, but this itself is an MOT fail.

expensive things to do

- replace the lamba sensor

- fuel injector cleaning etc
