Re: Replacing coil

Good useful post :thumleft: I did mine a couple of months ago and can confirm all the above are pretty much the steps I took also. Only differences are I used Red Rubber Grease on the threads and to fill the bolt recesses instead of Copper Grease and Vaseline and after rubbing down the contact point...

Another vote for Rainsport 3's here :thumleft: I prefer 17" though.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Back end bouncing.

Did you check the damping action of the rears while the springs were off? If they were not brilliant then that would have been an ideal time to replace or upgrade them.

Re: Porting wastegate

I read that the problem is the flow capacity of the new downpipe. The gas will find the easiest path of escape and if that happens to be through the turbine due to lack of resistance then that's where it will go. Berk are said to make very high quality downpipes so I doubt it's a case of wastegate f...

Stock exhaust manifold, Tial external wastegate and think it's 3" diameter on the downpipe. Decatted but not wrapped.

Re: Recommend me a mapper/sparky

Tbh, its easy for people to speculate but without actually looking at the car and/or the map in fc edit theres no conclusive way of seeing what's going on. Boost control is a good place to start, a genuine Tial wg is £212 from owen developments. Im not sure if the car is a daily or a toy for you, b...

Re: Recommend me a mapper/sparky

Hmm interesting. Could it be fuel pump related you think? I've not upgraded it but it's not the one that came with the car either (fuel tank imploded and ruptured so I fitted a tank and pump from a car that one of the guys on here was taking apart). It actually boosts earlier on the road but for som...

Re: Recommend me a mapper/sparky

80% duty is a safe limit for the injectors, I wouldn't want to push them past 85% The PFC has different idle settings for electrical load or no electrical load, if it's hunting when you have no elec load (lights, air con etc) then the idle is probably set too low, easy to change with a commander or...

Re: Recommend me a mapper/sparky

I've not actually contacted him yet as I want to change out the wastegate for a decent one and see how it behaves. It seems strange that if I increase the percentage on my EBC any further that it makes less boost so what he said about the cheap wastegate may carry some weight. Idle is still all over...

Re: Wheel Alignment settings (one for a STICKY?) converted to mm's

Myself and archangel had the Dino settings applied to our cars by a nice local business called DC Autos UK yesterday. The feel is quite neutral and will likely suit most people's tastes. I think for me I'd prefer the rear a little more planted so I may have a further tweak yet. If you're based in or...

Re: My suspension woes continue.. (skip to end!)

Those are really high pressures! I've always heard good things about Rainsports though.. :-k Strangely I've found I have to keep big tyres at this kind of pressure or they just feel flat/wear abnormally. I'm not saying go for Rainsport's in particular, rather that replacing your worn tyres might be...

Start checking your ignition components (leads, distributor cap, rotor arm etc).

Re: My suspension woes continue.. (skip to end!)

Just my two pence. I had a serious wallowing problem with mine after fitting new BC coilovers and a pair of 245/40/17 Uniroyal Rainsport 3's on the rear (previously 235/40/17 Goodyear F1 Asymmetric). I was convinced it was because my new tyres were not XL rated and Uniroyal are generally quite soft....

Re: Recommend me a mapper/sparky

No worries man, my parcel left japan yesterday so hopefully my car will be back together by the new year! Tbh, it's not a bad shout to swap the cheap wastegate for a real one, they tend to leak down the valve stem pretty badly (I.e, your boost source from the compressor housing that is acting on th...

Re: Recommend me a mapper/sparky

you will be seeing peak boost being reached earlier on the road as there will be more load on the engine, especially if he did the power runs in 3rd instead of 4th on the rollers. there's definitely something amiss there, 241whp is ~ 290bhp @ the fly, which any rev3+ will make on a ct20 @1.2bar, st...

Re: Recommend me a mapper/sparky

So you're engine is not forged? How much boost are you running? No, not forged. According to my EBC readout I'm running around 16-17psi. The graph from Saturday: http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/ll96/willenium2k4/DSC_1725.jpg Showing my peak boost being reached very late but on the road it's defi...

Re: Recommend me a mapper/sparky

shame you don't have a commander or I could have talked you through idle adjustments. is this a new (to you) PFC? I'm assuming you did the idle learning procedure on first install? Ah that is a shame. I'll be on the lookout for one but don't know too much about them. Are the commander units univers...

Re: Recommend me a mapper/sparky

do you have a commander? can you post pics of the graph showing your AFR's? what are your current engine mods? I don't have the commander unfortunately. I'm at work at the moment but when I get home I can take a picture of the printout and post it on here. Spec is: Greddy SMIC Garrett T34 (we think...
