[Mk2] [Generic] Wipers not working, where are the contacts to clean?

My wipers git slow, then stopped working on fast setting, now stopped entirely.

I've changed the motor, Stalk, Wiper blades, cleaned up and lubricated the linkages.

Now I'm stuck and can only put it down to bad contacts, but where are they?

Cheers

Re: Starting procedure for oil circulation after 9 month layup

EFI fuel is nice and easy to pull so that's why it is my preference.

Thanks for the replies - never like starting a car without any oil circulated after a fair amount of time but I agree it won't really do much harm.

Cheers

Starting procedure for oil circulation after 9 month layup

Bit irrelevant as I have started it anyway, but I changed the oil, removed the EFI fuse so it couldn't fire and cranked the car over for about 10 seconds.

Would this have spun the oil pump round and circulated the oil without running dry immediately?

I use acf50 on my coilovers. Love it.

Re: Undersealing and Waxoyl

Agreed - imports really need protection, if they haven't already been done and have been used in all weathers for 10 years in the UK they will be ropey most likely!

Re: Undersealing and Waxoyl

Hopefully any surface corrosion is removed and treated before under-sealing otherwise you are just sealing a problem in. If the £200 job includes this then I am impressed - it has taken me days just to deal with the 4 arch areas and I have taken all 4 struts off as there was light surface corrosion ...

Re: Help, why us my front camber massively negative?

Cheers guys Jim - absolutely right, I have only just read your reply but did exactly this last night and was surprised that it made a huge difference! I put standard bolts back in to see what happened and combined with pulling the hub it made a big difference. If I put the camber bolts back in I sho...

Help, why us my front camber massively negative?

I've finally managed to fit some vintage Ohlins coilovers bought from a former member who broke his car 2 years ago. They have cusco camber adjustable top mounts set to the usual mk2 full inboard position. I'm trying to fit my new 17x8 et 35 wheels running 215 40 profile tyres with 3mm spacer and ei...

Re: Fuel tank rusted-where can i buy a new one from?

I've not heard of this in the UK, Europe or US, not from the inside anyway.

Without wishing to offend, is it a likely result of poorer grade fuels in India?
If so, it will happen again and I wonder if you could put any sort of coating inside to protect it from happening again?

Re: Need opinions - rust discovered!

If you have friends that work to a great standard of quality for cheap then that's a different kettle of fish. This is where I am extremely lucky. I have a mate whose company fabs stainless steel kitchens and who in his spare time restores cars. He also races, in fact he just converted a Fiesta ST ...

Re: Need opinions - rust discovered!

I would seriously invest the money in a tidy replacement car and swap your fun bits over. That's easier said than done. If the car is otherwise excellent, then I would repair it. There's not much point looking at the economical side of it - if you're concerned about repair costs exceeding or coming...

Re: Need opinions - rust discovered!

As I said before, think very carefully. You will inevitably spend quite a lot of money on paint alone. Then after its done you will find more that you didn't expect. I would seriously invest the money in a tidy replacement car and swap your fun bits over. You should only restore these cars at their ...

Re: Refitting control arms to sub frame

Rob if you haven't cross threaded the entire length of the thread then take it to wessex fastners, there in old town, Swindon. They'll measure it for you and if they've got one may possibly loan you a tap. I used to use them for all my fixings the two old boys on the counter know all sorts Oooh - l...

Hi Peter

If you get a second spare today, could you confirm the details of the captive sub frame thread pitch?

Appreciate you are a busy man though.....

Thanks

Re: Need opinions - rust discovered!

Having been in the same position and spanking 1.5k on both sills, inner rear arches and rear turret rust I would cut your losses. If I didn't have sentimental attachment to to mine I would have just got a newer better example. The question is, as the rot is so well hidden, are all mr2s harbouring th...

Re: Refitting control arms to sub frame

I did Peter, the first side worked by lifting the hub as you said. I did lightly tap the bolt so that the tapered locator end engaged the captive nut and away it went. Did the same on the other side but something went wrong and I didn't heed the premature tightening as cross threading I even put a 1...
