Re: Gutted cracked block AGAIN :-(
Good advise there.... Just to elaborate on countering sleeve movement, 'top hat' design requires both machining the full bore and a wider section which interlocks the liner to the block ! Liners not going to move either direction in this case once the heads bolted down... Straight liner approach......

Re: Gutted cracked block AGAIN :-(
:? sorry to here your woes bud if its any consilation i,m on engine number 3 aswell !! from my point of view on dont think sleeving is the way forward...... according to my well known engine builder the machine work needed to fit the sleeves actually weekens the block further causing torsonal stress...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Mani to turbo gaskets (GT30)?
hey dude... :D i've replaced mine a few times now and they have always been thin steel gaskets.. if you look closely round the inside edge of the gasket it should have a tiny folded double edge that crushes under load to prevent boot leaking...never had a problem with mine even at 2 bar..... p.s kee...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] AVT Charge coolers: opinions?
Yeah- I've thought about a scoop underneath, reckon I could even do it and keep my exhaust if I was cunning about the design. Don't really want to louvre my boot- trying to keep it looking as stock as possible from the outside lol I'm trying to make the car track proof (so that rules out side exit ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] AVT Charge coolers: opinions?
you normally find ait's are slightly higher in chargecooler systems ...but they maintain a constant low in stead of being a bit peaky which you can get with intercoolers... Really? I thought the whole point was they cooled temps more...that's pretty much the main reason I'm considering the switch. ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] AVT Charge coolers: opinions?
Alright dude- yeh: I thought I remembered yours looking like this :D What size core have you got on yours? I'm surprised that your temps were that high...or am I expecting too much from a c/c...? But then I guess that is at 2bar...still I was hoping to keep temps under 35c :-k EDIT: forgot to add- ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] AVT Charge coolers: opinions?
Eh up dude... Avt use pwr cores ...just like I'm using (and also that chap that did the wheelie (Roy ashby)...from experience I can tell you this... They cool very well... Constant tempretures of 40-47'c at 2 bar boost when it's 25'c outside...it does not heat soak at all even when idling.. The only...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Ebay Lightweight Relocation Oil Cooler Kits??
Lots of reasons really Car drives like stock power comes in earlier as said dial in bang on, and no pulling of the timing when tuning Dont forget the hks cams were made for the NA and other cams are copies of the hks items, having said all that people have had good results with 272s but the headwor...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Ebay Lightweight Relocation Oil Cooler Kits??
I was going to say about the cams Chris! If there not opening at the right time you have to pull advance the higher up the revs you go! Hmmm interesting I went back for a second mapping session and a cam swing to try and get more power...we ended up advancing the the exhaust cam timing and netted a...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Ebay Lightweight Relocation Oil Cooler Kits??
Bob is correct in what he is saying. But unless you are aiming for really high HP I believe 8.5:1 is just fine. I reckon it more down to charge temps and good mapping and if you get a bloody good block! I reckon another possible factor could be aftermarket cams not set up correctly causing poor flo...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Ebay Lightweight Relocation Oil Cooler Kits??
I honestly didn't know that! I would greatly appreciate that info so I can pass it on to my engine builder and see what he has to say....if it's a case of lowering the compression would fitting a thicker head gasket be o.k in your eyes... I,m currently running STD toyota 1mm head gasket with a cr of...
