Re: Boost pressure stuck

From the (albeit tiny photo) it looks like a 10mm banjo bolt? A local hardware place etc isn't likely to stock them. A quick google brings this up: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/371279151247?limghlpsr=true&hlpv=2&ops=true&viphx=1&hlpht=true&lpid=108&chn=ps&device=c&r...

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] front discs keep warping

Are they actually warped though? Have you checked the discs for runout? Very valid point. First you need to raise and support the car. Remove the road wheel and then use the wheel nuts to tighten the disc to the hub. Use a DTI (dial test indicator) on the outer most section of the disc and slowly r...

Re: cleaning the fuel tank

It's very unlikely that you actually have "dirt" in your fuel tank. When I restored my Mini years back, I took the tank out and at the time it was about 20 years old. Absolutely spotless inside, not a trace of any contamination. Also, you have a fuel filter to protect the injectors against...

Re: Blitz NUR R Flex Pipe

The flex pipe on my Blitz NUR R exhaust is blowing, has anyone replaced theirs or can recommend where I can get a good quality replacement? Depending on where you are in the country, I can personally recommend Hayward and Scott. They're based just outside of Basildon and they specialise in custom h...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Loose wheel Nut

take the wheel off and hammer then stud out, replace with new stud. It's a relatively simple job :thumleft: And how does he do that when the nut is turning the stud instead of undoing? Other than what Mullen has suggested, the only thing I can think of is trying to weld the backside (flanged part) ...

Re: Odd aerial issue(s)

I'd hazard a guess that the teeth on the rack inside the aerial mast have worn at the raised position. The reason the motor continues to run on is that it looks to see a load (when it's raised or lowered) in order to know that it's at the correct position and then shuts off. As you nudge it, it drop...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Rev3 Turbo not boosting

The simplest solution is to unplug the VSV, put an MBC in and see what's what. From what I can remember, the VSV's in rev3's+ work more like an EBC in that they bleed off a variable amount of boost depending on circumstances etc, so I'm not sure if they work off 12v or 5v. Might be worth Pm'ing one ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Rev3 Turbo not boosting

It's certainly worth checking that the VSV is plugged in. If a previous owner had a boost controller of any sort, they may have unplugged it to stabilise the boost to allow the controller to work correctly.

From memory it's under the intake manifold.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Rev3 Turbo not boosting

lol, not bragging in the slightest, glad that you've found the leak :) Ok yeah, 7 psi is low for a rev3. Do you have a boost controller of any sort? If not, I'd carry on checking around for leaks, if there's one, there might be another. If you have a boost controller (mechanical or electronic) try t...

As for 7psi, which revision is the car?

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Rev3 Turbo not boosting

Just a thought... blow off valve! Do you have one fitted? Is it possible it's stuck open? That's a pretty good shout to be fair. Can you hear a loud rushing type noise on wide open throttle? For you to be losing all boost, I'd have expected to have some audible clue. Glad that your turbo is ok thou...

Re: Handling on rev 3 turbo

MR2's only handle well for a 25 year old bus. Type R's, Focus ST's, Meganes etc will all run rings around a standard (and probably modified) MR2. It's just technology catching up I guess. That's pretty much it to be fair. The MR2 was a good handling car in its day, but time and technology has moved...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Rev3 Turbo not boosting

I, personally, still think that either the turbine shaft has snapped, or the exhaust wheel has fallen off. Quick way to check is to whip the intake pipe off and start the engine for a couple of seconds. If the intake turbine spins you can rule it out, if not, you'll need to drop the cat/elbow off to...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Rev3 Turbo not boosting

If you're not boosting above 0 (atmospheric pressure) it can only really be one of two things, the turbo isn't producing boost (either a broken shaft between the intake and exhaust turbine or the wastegate being jammed open (which you've ruled out)) or that you have a total boost leak, I.E. a hose c...

Re: Small MBC problem

It could well be that the spring is a little too strong as standard. If all the other advice hasn't helped, try cutting a coil or two off of the spring and see where you go from there.

I'd say check your top mounts, but I assume the BC's will have new top mounts.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Rev 2 Only hitting 4k under boost and chucking out smoke

How old are the leads and plugs? I had a similar thing many years ago on an ST185 Celica GT4 (same engine) and it turned out that one of the leads was breaking down and arcing out onto the insulation of the plug. When the boost came on it was simply blowing the spark out on that particular plug and ...
