Quick update.. ETS finally changed the alternator again and problem solved. The original alternator had an intermittent fault which gave the error lights before the system warmed up.

There is voltage at the 3 pins on the plug so these seem okay.

I ran an earth direct from the battery to engine so that should rule a bad earth out.

It looks like the alternator to me. If it could be the ecu is there a way of testing this?
