Will an atmosphere dump have long term effect or is it just affecting performance at the time?

Is there anyone who has fitted a BOV to their Rev1 Turbo?
If so which ones and was there any trouble after fitting it etc.
I was told that the Rev1 uses recirculation and therefore a BOV would confuse the ECU?
