Re: Drivers door change - hints & tips.

Many thanks chaps. I've been looking at it for a while and was reckoning that doing the assembly on the bench would be the way to go. Guess i'll have to spend a weekend clearing the workbench. I'm always taking things apart and use the camera a lot. One of life's mysteries as you never quite manage ...

Drivers door change - hints & tips.

Hi all, I have a replacement door to fit (the current one is all rusted out) and was looking for hints & tips from those that have more experience than me. The replacement door is the skin only so all the mirror, electrics, window, etc need to switch across. Is it easier to switch doors then swi...

Re: Drop link replacement 3 SGTE?

Sorted.
There's a recess in the wheel arch. You need to jack the strut up so that the drop link aligns with the recess.
Shame the new drop links are the wrong length.

Re: Rusty door change

I'm in the same boat. I have the door and will swap it over next week. Doesn't look difficult - just a slog. Typical cost per panel is £70. My MR2 is red (pink) and my replacement door is white. I bid on a few red doors on ebay but they all went for stupid money and were no better than my current on...

Drop link replacement 3 SGTE?

Struggling to see how to get them out.
Managed to get the bolts undone top and bottom.
Separated from the ARB but the top jams against the wheel arch and cannot be removed.
I can see 2 large bolts at the bottom of the suspension strut. Will the strut rotate slightly if I crack these?
Thanks

Car ramps.

Looking for feedback on the best ramps. I have a set of standard ramps and can only just squeeze underneath. No chance of dieting as I like my food & beer too much. I've seen a few sets of the higher ones (hydraulic and mechanical scissor type) on eblag. The latter claim to get the car to 400mm,...

Re: Coolant leak.

Just checked expansion tank this weekend and level is exactly where it should be. The previous owner replaced the radiator and the pipes from hell. The coolant in the expansion tank is nice and pink but there are signs of rust. Probably where the previous owner hadn't flushed the whole system out pr...

Re: coolant level dropping.

HI Martin, will certainly replace rad cap as part of winter renovation project.
The odd thing about it all is that the level is dropping while the car is standing in my garage. It's not a function of running the engine. :? :? :-k

Re: Coolant leak.

Hi Draven, did consider this but there are no symptoms to suggest HG failure. No oil emulsion in filler cap and exhaust runs clear at tickover and under load. The steam episode was after a good thrashing and rather embarrassingly when I pulled into the garage to fill up. It stopped when the turbo ti...

Coolant leak.

Car is having a winter rest and overhaul. Last time out after a fast run there was a lot of steam in and around the engine bay while the turbo timer was on run down. I've noticed that the coolant level is dropping - over a week it falls to a point were you can't feel it if you remove the filler cap ...

Samcos, OEM or some other hose?

I know that Samcos are the dogs and they come in red to match the paint code but are they worth the money?

Looks scarey. I have the time as the bumpers will come off for painting.
Looks like a job well worth the effort.

Re: Newbie - just bought MR2 3SGTE- tips please.

Many thanks for all the tips so far. I was struggling with the tyre choice but will go for the Goodyears. Looking at the HEL brake set as I use these on my bikes and they are good and cheaper than other makes. HT leads currently Yazaki and resistance is different across every lead. Suspect this is c...

Newbie - just bought MR2 3SGTE- tips please.

Hi all, recently became proud owner of a 1998 reg 35,000 mile 3SGTE and have run it for a few weeks before the road tax expired. Now sitting in the garage (laid up for the winter) and keen to do some polishing and get the spanners out. Aside from the obvious (oil, filter, plugs) what are the key thi...
