Re: [Mk2] [NA] Getting the 2 back on the road
If your worried about starting the engine because the top end is dry after being stood simply pull off the coil lead at the centre iof the distributer and crank the engine for 10-20 secs. This will pump some oil around the engine before you fire it up.

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Which copper core plugs ?
I thought the recomended gap was 0.8mm?
But i agree Denso plugs are very good and what Toyota fit at the factory. You can get them from Euro Car Parts as well.

Re: leaky wheel issue
Most good tyre fitters will have a proper bead sealer for this sort of thing. Its basically a thick black rubberised sealant they paint around the mating face of the wheel before they fit the tyre. My wheels where badly corroded around the edge and they used the sealant on mine and it cured the slow...

Since it starts ok sometimes it sounds like a bad connection somewhere. Maybe an earth wire or loose battery terminals

Re: [N/A] UK clocks into Import
You cant swap uk and import clocks around. It seems they are wired differently and things are in different places. You can however remove the complete speedo unit and interchange that whilst keeping the original instrument cluster. The clocks still wont read right though because the speedo drive in ...

Anybody got the correct part numbers for the 2 drive shaft oil seals for a 1990 N/A?
Or if anybody knows where i can buy them online that would be a great help, thanks.

Re: Failed MOT today :(
Dont lose heart pal, the wording they use to describe fail items on an MOT can have you thinking the car is falling apart around you. Excessively corroded is probrably a hole the size of a pin willy and the other bits should be easy to sort.

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Idle speed problems
Yes mate. Not exactly sure what sorted it but i took the throttle body off and cleaned the lot including the ISC with Carb Cleaner. There was some light oil inside the ISC which may of been causing it to stick? I set up the TPS again but dont think that was the cause of the problems and finally i ra...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Idle speed problems
sounds like either the isc is sticking or you need to set up tps again also have you tried cleaning the throttle body out ?? TPS did cross my mind but its intermittent problem so if that was out it would run poor all the time i would think. I will set it up again though when i have the body off as ...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Idle speed problems
Ah got you. I think we're both suffering the same problem here John. As I say my mechanical knowledge is slim as far as actual engines go but I'll have a go at anything. I'm taking it that the throttle body is very near to the actual throttle? Yes it does sound very similar problem the revs suddenl...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Idle speed problems
I'm no mechanic John but just above the throttle theres a nut with an allen-key screw. I loosened off the nut slightly which gives you the option of turning the allen-key screw to adjust your revs slightly. I'm driving an N/A though, can't remember if you are too. Edit: just looked at your page and...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Idle speed problems
Sorry mate still not got any further with this. I managed to get info regarding the wiring side from Paul Woods though. The centre wire on the plug going to the ISC must have 12 volts with engine running. I checked that on mine and all seems fine but still not got around to giving the ISC a good cle...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Knock when stationary after fitting new track rod and track rod end
Yeah it sounds like the top mount is seized. You can put some oil in the top where the centre nut is and allow it to keep penetrating then keep adding more. Ive freed them off like this before but in all honesty its highly likely that the bearing has had it. New ones are around 65/70 quid from Toyota.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Told tracking couldnt be adjusted after new rack fitted, urgent ad
As above really. When i changed mine i was worried about this happening so best way is with the new rack and old rack side by side set the track rod ends on the new rack so they look as near as possible the same length as the old one. Put the rack on the car and replace the road wheels but do not co...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Brake advise needed please
They shouldnt be too tight. I had this problem and its caused by rust/dirt build up on the pad carrier. You will see a silver spring clip that the pad slides into one at the top and one at the bottom. Remove these and clean it up and also the surface on the pad carrier that the clip sits in. I did t...
