Re: Suspension refresh

It's an 88, E reg.

Could I have a set of springs shot blasted and re-coated to make them (semi) rust proof?

I see KYBs are the cheaper option compared to Konis, are Fensport the best for prices or am I better off hunting eBay?

Suspension refresh

I need to replace the coil springs as they were an advisory on the MOT, something I'm willing to buy new or good second hand. The reason for starting this thread is one of (or possibly more) my shocks is on its way out. Now, am I better off buying a new set or can I get them rebuilt to save on cost?...

Re: A few niggles I need advice on

Got the bleed nipple out, thanks for the advice! Car passed its MOT today with only 3 advisories. Although I was changing the plugs earlier and the first two along with the plug socket came out oily. I'm thinking a rocker cover gasket leak at that end which is causing the oil to pool up around the p...

Re: A few niggles I need advice on

Cheers, I'll take the dodgy shim out and see if that helps. The pad return springs are recycled but they seem to still be quite springy.

Re: A few niggles I need advice on

Another quick question.

Do Toyota or a big autofactor like Euro Car Parts stock pad shims?

I was doing a test drive today and the front right is squeaky where I've had to recycle some old shims that were pretty knackered.

Re: A few niggles I need advice on

Cheers, I'll have a look in the boot and see if I can release it from there.

I have some bleed nipples kicking about but they're different sizes so hopefully one will fit.

A few niggles I need advice on

There are a few problems that don't warrant their own individual threads so I thought I'd combine and save time. 1. When I start the car and drive it the oil temp always reads somewhere in between half and almost into the red. After about 10 mins or so it settles back to normal operating temps. Not ...

Re: exhaust wrap

Exhaust wrap is generally used in race applications to minimise temperature bleed into the cooling system/engine. This helps keep running temps low thus avoiding any overheating issues that may reduce the efficiency of the engine. I've never had a road car with a wrapped exhaust but I've heard that ...

Re: GT4 Twinpots

That is good news, thanks Mart.

All the eBay offerings look a little knackered, will have to ring round a few scrappies tomorrow and see if they have any in.

Re: GT4 Twinpots

Sorry to go off topic but how much work is involved in fitting the ST165/185 calipers?

I need to replace a front caliper on my mk1 and thought I'd check out upgrade options before making any decisions.
