Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] i want 300bhp ish :P
I thought that the blast front from the pre ignition hitting the blast front from the spark was what caused knock? And the resulting hot spot is what damages pistons? That will be one thing that will follow on from pre ignition, because inevitably, a spark will fire milliseconds later causing a sec...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Next minor niggle :D
The leak (which there will be) is likely to be small. Realistically you will need to set aside a good afternoon to address this. You will need to remove the plastic shields from under the car first. This is likely to result in a number of snapped bolts unless the previous keeper has looked after th...

[Mk2] [Turbo] Next minor niggle :D
Getting a faint smell of fuel at times - which I find odd? with the engine and most of the lines etc being behind me. I know the tank runs up the centre of the car under my left arm, but still, just seems odd with most of the lines/connections/possible leak points behind. Typical scenario will be I'...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] i want 300bhp ish :P
Is pre ignition not caused by the compression in the cylinder? I was under the impression that if the fuel ignites under compression this would cause knock and the only ways to reduce this are to lower static CR or increase the fuels resistance to combust. I cant see how ignition timing can stop pr...

To be fair, that Jeff Hartman book looks superb - a lot of the MR2 section is on google books - just search "MR2 Jeff Hartman" He does case studies on many cars tho, I need to get it ordered! Very eye opening! Def reccomended reading!! http://www.amazon.co.uk/Modify-Management-Systems-Moto...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] So, getting better grip on fueling?
there is no way whatsoever with stock internals 400bhp is gonna last 10-15k miles. regardless of how it' mapped.. That sounds like a gauntlet being thrown down :D :D :D Would love to see this done, might attempt it myself to see if I get the time / disposable income - the car itself is pretty much ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] So, getting better grip on fueling?
Of all the failures that have occured - read a few myself in the short time I have been reading up on the 3SGTE so do agree on the surface it looks like there is some sort of issue inherent to the 3SGTE - how many have been on stock management getting pushed beyond what it was ever designed to do th...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Will decat pass mot since new April 12 laws
The MR2 turbo was never sold in the UK, so pre 95 I believe, the platform wasn't available, so its the non cat test, or should be, seems many mot testers don't know themselves lol After 95 I am led to believe (haven't seen the regs) that it requires a cat to be fitted full stop, but I am willing to...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Stock Rev2 3SGTE: 487.3bhp & 364.6lbft, 2.2 bar & 8100RPM
To those talking about US popular boost limits in pump fuel - isn't their fuel really crap octane? Like 93 ish? Sorry to bump the thread, but just to pick up on this, 93 US is same as our 98/99, so directly comparable. :-) They just measure octane directly to us. But is comparable. Ps, GTR going we...

Re: The Turbonoz MR2 Budget Beast: 487bhp & 364lb·ft
Superb. A total disregard for glass ceilings and being told what you can't do. I mean ok, on the edge of the envelope, it will be - as you said in the other thread - unsurprising, if it lets go, but for a ball hair off of 500 BHP on an engine which only made 220 from the factory (on a good day!) I d...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Stock Rev2 3SGTE: 487.3bhp & 364.6lbft, 2.2 bar & 8100RPM
Idiots question because you have already stressed the stockness of the stock engine But need to be one million percent sure Stock compression ratio? Bob Hatton was saying in a thread I started on fueling that this is the defining limiter on 3s-gte power, implication being it will det itself to piece...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Throttle Body? ISCV?
Any update? Yes!!! Sorted! Sorry, forgot about this thread. The black and yellow wire meant to feed my ISCV with 12v, wasn't. It has been seen before a few times, it breaks. I haven't found out where, I just bypassed the issue, for now. It had also knocked out my TVIS (same wired) but I hadn't noti...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] So, getting better grip on fueling?
the poor top end will be the turbo being outwith it's efficiency range, it'll be blowing hot air. you should see if you can blag a drive in a similarly modded rev3. you'll be gobsmacked by the (difference in) performance. Yeah - this is half the problem, there are no decent ones around here - maybe...

But yeah Bob, I need to look at what I WANT to run, problem is I just like tinkering. Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] So, getting better grip on fueling?
The problem with the Toyota engine is the compression ratio. The Rev1 & 2 are at 8.8:1 and the Rev 3 is 8.5:1. With the right grade of high octane fuel I am sure you can get 400 HP with no problem, but is that want you want to run? So the limit is a mechanical one, it has nothing to do with wha...

As a guide, what is the general cost of a drive in, drive out, rev3 conversion, assuming someone does them, not including turbocharger?

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] So, getting better grip on fueling?
in my opinion, the only reason for using a standalone ECU would be with a bigger build, plenty of cars running 300/320 on the stock rev3 ecu, the car is just about at it's limits internally anyway (i know Noz13 is running some ridiculous boost on standard internals, still only making around 300ish ...
