Re: Rev2 turbo thermostat replacement - help needed!

need to expand your tool kit. should be no reason you cant undo that dipstick bolt. use the double ended spanner trick to get more leverage on it housing, either need some long thin sockets and extensions, or smaller spanner, preferably a spanner thats 6sided, not 12. those thermostat housing nuts a...

Re: Rev4 Turbo *mini photoshoot*

Interesting as always Jim, never seen someone preemptively change their HG  I thought you were using a bit of meth (heh) in your WI mix lol, car was pushing a bit of coolant out, never always fully returning to system, could never get to the bottom of it, so last resort was maybe some headlift...

Re: Rev4 Turbo *mini photoshoot*

the td06 downpipe will mate up to anything other than a Berk i heard. for whatever reason berks downpipe to mid pipe joint is a further 1inch down the system. you never here of issues, because people usually get both their downpipe and exhaust. what you dont here of is people trying to mate a berk e...

Re: Rev4 Turbo *mini photoshoot*

WI definately reduces power if it isnt mapped for it, but keeps safety its why ill likely try a little race gas instead, should have a similar effect, knock suppressant etc. wont be as cheap, (potential +£20-25 per tank), but id like to try it out anyways. i wont remove the WI until its had...

Re: Rev4 Turbo *mini photoshoot*

been a while, but getting down to doing a HG refresh, ARPs, removing WI and trying out running some Race Gas mix instead for this year. before it came off for winter, i turned off WI, and car went like a bat out of hell. i guess injecting water does suppress some ponies. nice to confirm the "re...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] cylinder head removal? such a thing as drop in cams?

I always thought you had done a writeup on a hg swap? To answer your first question, i just took the top of the belt off mine and the head came off ok. Out of interest, why are you taking the head off? If its all fine i wouldnt mess with it. a long long time ago, and i had help for the cambelt side...

[Mk2] [Turbo] cylinder head removal? such a thing as drop in cams?

ok, im uprating to ARP head studs and renewing the HG along with a service of the head. obviously makes sense to change cambelt at the same time. question is, as long as things are TDC, ok to just remove the top of the belt to be able to get the head off, then worry about the rest of the belt later?...

Re: Coilovers

Wheel offsets will effect the fitment, not just width.
Camber also plays a part, particularly at the front.
So really depends on the above.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Rev3 Tubby struggles to idle

always handy to use a spare battery and feed the pins 12vs to see what the valve is doing when you have it off. you can check the vid or online manual for which pins to ground and give power too. with some cleaning agents, ive used vehicle degreaser and wd40, the valve should easily open and close f...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Rev3 Tubby struggles to idle

yeh not ideal these screws. find a large screwdriver bit, as its so easy to round these off.
worse case, dremel a slot and use a flathead screwdriver.

after this, not much option but to drill the head off.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Rev3 Tubby struggles to idle

check and clean the idle control valve, it can get sticky over time, especially if not used for a while and not open enough to allow enough air flow for idle.
