Re: Many Issues!
I tend to do what you've just suggested every time I start it cause I get in and turn ACC on and then have to get out to pull the power aerial up :? Just found another potential funny, hanging inbetween the coolant tank and the block is a big rubber lump with a 1-pin connector in it. It has a green ...

Re: Many Issues!
Thought of something else which may be related. When it's very cold (ie current evening temperature) it really struggles to start. It can take 5-8 seconds of cranking and then it'll splutter for another 5 seconds or so with the battery voltage gauge slowly falling, before it eventually starts. It th...

Re: Many Issues!
It idles fine. At about 2200rpm when the auto choke's engaged, and just under 1krpm once it's warm.

Re: Many Issues!
Wouldn't the timing being out affect it at all revs? Once you get to 4500rpm it roars into life and you're suddenly at 6krpm having been pushed back into your seat (and having used half a tank of fuel...).

Re: Many Issues!
Thanks for the quick reply :) 1) I don't know how to check timing, but I can certainly do the other things tonight. 2) Not by myself :/ It was pulled tight by a very big mechanic type using a metal bar. 3) Goodo! 4) I can get under it at the weekend, I am about 40 miles away from my trolley jack. As...

Many Issues!
Hello, I've borrowed an '87 MK1 N/A off a mate while my MK2 gets fixed, and first off, am loving it :thumleft: However it has a few issues... 1) It eats petrol. I'm lucky to get 175 miles from a tank. (I am used to low MPG as my mk2 is a turbo but 175 from a tank on an N/A 1.6?!) The car also reeks ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Powersteering rack - will one from a Rev3 fit the rev1
I can't answer your question, but if it helps I know rev 2 racks fit on rev 3's as I've just done it. However I think it was rev2 they made power steering mandatory, and on rev1 it was optional? So they may be different parts.

Re: [Mk1] [Generic] Leaky Boot
Turns out someone had one of the light clusters off and didn't screw it back on properly so water has got in and fooked everything around it... the rubber's perished on the light seal, the metal around it is starting to rust, etc. etc. Thanks all for your help

[Mk1] [Generic] Leaky Boot
The boot on my recently acquired MK1 leaks like a b4stard! It's no good putting anything in there, and it's starting to smell funny as I suspect the carpet has had it. I can't see where the leak's coming from but I think it might be the seals where the spoiler screws into the bootlid - specifically ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Car just failed MOT... power steering
It seems that since the MOT the pump had also stopped working, as it had no negative feed from the part that toyota call the 'power steering driver' (the lower of the 2 ECU style units). Ripped everything apart today and put it all back together and I do now have power assist. Not sure whether this ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Car just failed MOT... power steering
Yeah, it turns fine. Like I said, I drove it to and from the MOT. It's just very heavy. I've got tomorrow off work so I shall get dirty and see if I can find anything. Steering geom hasn't been checked. Haven't had the front of the car up yet so I'm not sure if it's free with no weight on it or not....

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Car just failed MOT... power steering
OK, checked P/S fluid and it's fine... it's gold not red which I guess means it's the Toyota EHPS fluid rather than ATF which is red. Next step is to check the system for air (P/S fluid foaming after use, or massive drop in fluid level when on full lock) and then to run through the electrical diagno...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Car just failed MOT... power steering
I have tried the ecu fault check, i get no errors. That was my first port of call. As I said in my original post I'm not sure how to check the fluid level in the power steering system. I'll try your suggestion of listening to the rack while the wheel gets turned and see if I can hear any nasty noise...

[Mk2] [Turbo] Car just failed MOT... power steering
Hi Guys, I bashed my car a while back and it's been off the road ever since while I've been fixing the bodywork. Took it for its 1st MOT since the 'incident' and it failed. The failure form has 2 failures marked on it, but they're more or less the same thing: Power Steering inoperative [2.3.1a] **DA...

Problem with Garage
I don't seem to be able to edit my car. (CID=1849) I think it may have been created before 'Make' was a required field, so when I go to edit it, the Make drop-down is disabled (greyed out). However, it along with Model are both required to submit the form. The Model drop down never gets populated as...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] crazy lock/unlock scenario
Does your car have an alarm? If not it suggests something simple, like your central locking controller being knackered. It's a small box hidden somewhere behind one of the rear trim panels inside the car, driver's side I think. Although that might just be the controller for the remote central lockin...
