Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Rev 3 Turbo Oil Sump Replacement

Definatatly a 2 piece sump - confirmed by local garage ordering the wrong piece ie. the top section rather than the sump pan.....sump pan is going to take 10 days to ship and costs £117+vat+fitting. Garage assures me that this is definatly the correct part for a MR2 turbo....we'll see....

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Rev 3 Turbo Oil Sump Replacement

Thanks for feedback. The motor's in the garage for a new sump today so I guess I'll find out about any compatibility problems soon....I've searched around and think there maybe an issue with UK sumps having an oil level sensor where imports do not. Here's a photo of the corroded sump / oil leak for ...

[Mk2] [Turbo] Rev 3 Turbo Oil Sump Replacement

A couple of spots of oil on my drive has revealed an oil leak on my Rev 3 Tubby. A look under the car shows the leak to be coming from corrosion on the side of the oil pan / sump. Does anyone know how easy it going to be to get hold of a replacement sump for a tubby? Does a rev 3 turbo share the sam...

Re: Matching boost sender to gauge ?

A little searching around around this forum makes me think that electroinic guages are hard to come by and expensive compared to mechanical ones....even if I could match one up it looks like I might be best to just bin this sender and fit a mechanical gauge....anyone got any thoughts on that ?

Matching boost sender to gauge ?

I've got what looks like an electronic sender unit (HKS) in the engine bay of my rev 3 tubby. Looks like it's plummed into the correct tubing for monitoring boost pressure in the engine bay. A 3 core cable runs from the sender into the cabin but isn't connected to a gauge. Can anyone offer any advic...

Re: Low temp & high idle

Thanks for feedback everyone. Was buggin me a bit that it might be a temperature sensor but I agree with advice here and will look at replacing the thermostat. I understand there's two temperature sensors (one for ECU and one for dashboard guage). My logic in thinking it's not a temperature sensor w...

Re: Low temp & high idle

Just been out driving the car again and the only difference from normal is that the car takes longer to fully warm up (a tad over 10 minutes normal driving) and idles higher until its up to temperature - heaters and everything appear to be operating OK. Car previously warmed up much quicker - say 5 ...

Low temp & high idle

Hi, I've noticed that my '91 rev 1 n/a MR2 is taking longer to warm up and the temperature gauge is staying very slightly below what was previously normal. Also, the idle speed is slightly higher at around 900-1000rpm instead of previous norm of 800rpm. Any ideas what this could be and whether this ...

Re: Corroded sills

I needed new sills on both sides, local bodyshop advised that that replacement sills were not available for MR2 so I've now got mk4 golf sills - they've been made to fit well and look very similar to originals - cost me a bit of money though....not sure if I was robbed or not :-k 8-[ http://i72.phot...

Re: Brake drag and sliding pins

Thanks for feedback. Measured temperature on both front wheels and discs and they're more or less the same. The car rolls on even the slightest of slopes so brakes are not binding :thumleft: I guess everybodys brakes will drag to a certain extent 'cos the pads will always be touching the disk...was ...

Brake drag and sliding pins

Can anyone offer any comments on how much front brakes in good condition should drag when the brakes are not being applied ? With the wheel jacked up off the ground, I can give it a spin, let it go and it will stop after about one revolution - 'cos of the drag of the pads on the disk. There's only a...

Re: Brake pad support plate...gone

Cheers Paul. There's no rust under the mounting plates but maybe its an idea to check the ends of the pads for paint buildup etc like you suggest as maybe the aftermarket pads can be a little oversized for the caliper ? I'm not giving up on you, appreciate all the effort people make in replying to p...

Re: Brake pad support plate...gone

Don't think that'll be a problem. Support plates hold the pad top and bottom and wont effect movement on and off the disc, thanks anyway :)

Re: Brake pad support plate...gone

Why do these plates need to provide a smooth surface top and bottom ? can't understand how that would make a big difference as the caliper is pretty smooth top and bottom. Though the plates were maybe just to assist mounting and retaining the pads to the disk when the caliper is off ? The pads sit p...

Re: Brake pad support plate...gone

Thanks for reply. It's the top and bottom spring parts that I've removed. I've just been out for a careful drive building up to some emergency stop testing and the brakes feel fine and sharp with no noise. The pads are a snug fit without the top and bottom support plates, I'd have real problems gett...

Brake pad support plate...gone

Hi, Any comments on this would be most appreciated. I've just replaced my brake pads on a rev1 n/a mr2. The old pads needed much persuasion to come out (ie. hammer and screwdriver). I had problems remounting the new ones on the support plates - I guess if I resorted to the hammer and screwdriver I c...

Re: Turbo 1990 Air con not working (Help please) its hot!!!!!

R134a is the refrigerant or "gas" in most modern air con systems (ie post '93). Yours is or was probably R12 refrigerant - but you've said it was converted so I'd presume the conversion would be to R134a ?...couldn't be certain about that...anyway, if it is R134a and it's just a top up you...
