Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Checking for head gasket health
All resolved - the plastic housing around the filler cap had worn out and stopped forming a seal even after Peter fitted a new filler cap. Replaced that and all good.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Checking for head gasket health
Car overheats under any load (3k+ revs with light or more boost) within a relatively short time. Have refilled and bled (radiator and heater core) but I'm getting the same symptoms. There's a lot of air coming out of the system every time I bleed - a lot more than I expect - and a lot of crap too, w...

[Mk2] [Turbo] Checking for head gasket health
Car overheated recently; air in coolant. Have carried out dry compression test today: 1 - 152 2 - 145 3 - 150 4 - 160 As far as I can gather this is normal. Is the next step a combustion leak test? I'm keen to confirm whether the head gasket is on the way out. Are there other tests I can carry out t...

Re: High mileage Mk2 Turbo - would you?
Bought mine at 100k+ with no history. Massive gamble and I've had the usual fail through wear and tear but no surprises otherwise - generally the car is in good condition, and anything I couldn't fix Peter was more than happy to sort.

MR2 Boot / Engine Bay grommets
Does anyone know the dimension of the two small grommets at the bottom corners of the boot / engine bay? One grommet has perished around where a previous owner had run a wire for a toad alarm, meaning the boot now becomes a paddling pool when it rains heavily... Failing that if anyone knows the part...

Re: Removing rear control arm issue - seized bolt.
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a264/St_Dante/20130624_192313.jpg Thanks guys. This is the offending bolt. It's definitely caught on the arm / bushing and not the subframe. I've tried wiggling it through loosening & tightening etc, applying a bit of gentle persuasion with a hammer and so on b...

Removing rear control arm issue - seized bolt.
Just a quick one - any experience / input I'd be grateful for... We've been replacing the control arms on my Rev 2 Turbo with newer polybushed arms. The rear left came off fine but the rear right has been a pig - the front subframe bolt is seized onto the subframe very badly. We managed to get the n...

Re: Painting Sills
I use rust remover after sanding back to bare metal to deal with any remaining oxidisation. which cost about £5 from Screw Fix. Anything with Phosphoric acid in is good. I've heard gel is best but I find the liquid form fine (and just as good for getting into any cuts you have on your hands if you'r...

If chaps want to make their car a smidge heavier, ricier and more like a slightly more like a submarine or something that you might find in a Mcdonalds car park at absolutely no benefit to performance then I say hey, go for it.

Did this with mine super street - and realised in the process I had a leak.

[Mk2] [Turbo] Rebuilding Shocks - specific oil type / quantity?
Because of the ridiculous cost of refurbing my Teins and the fact I was never the biggest fan of their ride (I bought my Rev 2 as an affordable GT rather than a track day monster), I've sourced a set of cheap second hand rebuildable (Rev5) struts which I am currently stripping back and repainting, w...

Re: Tein Rebuilds
Cheers. I've given up and am going down the route of stock rebuildables with apex lowering springs as an affordable compromise. Will get the Teins off and sell as a job lot.

Re: Tein Rebuilds
Tein rebuilds seem steep.
The initial rebuild price was reasonable, but the big hit was on the shipping of parts to and from Japan.
Suffice to say I am looking into alternatives...If anyone has any ideas I'd be grateful :s

Re: Tein Rebuilds
Has anyone any idea roughly of the time it takes for a response? I had an initial reply very quickly asking for more detail, but have heard nothing since Saturday. Impatient I know but I'm getting worried as I have the annual Ring drive on the 28th July and it'll be frankly s**t if I take the GTI in...

Re: Protecting the underside of my Mk 2, what are my options
I agree on the sills. Peter advised me to get into the car, remove the back quarter interior trim on each side, whip out the foam filling each sill and spray some waxoyl or similiar in there. Is a 30 min job and gives you peace of mind.
